I was rejected as an incoming sophomore for fall 2011 transfer admissions, and I was wondering if there was an appeal process for UMD. UMD is my dream school and I would appreciate if anyone could share past success stories of appealing a rejection, and how they went about it.

Do you mind sharing your freshman year GPA with us? Where are you transferring from, and are you instate MD? We get very little feedback from transfer applicants, and this would be helpful to know. In the past, it appears that most of their decisions for transfers are based the most on CC or previous univ GPA…high school GPA and SATs can be less than optimal if the college GPA shows that a student has turned things around once they got into school.

3.12 out of state from Clemson University.

They do have an appeal process, but you have to fight tooth and nail. (fun fact, I’m trying to decide between attending Clemson or UMD)…

Maybe I can help you decide. Where are you from and what are you trying to study? Do you know anything about the appeal process, and how do you go about it?

I applied to transfer to umd for fall 2011 and was denied as well… I would be very interested in knowing about the appeal process, if you know please message me too!

also yankee13 it’s odd you didn’t get in cuz usually for umd u get in as long as you have above a 3.0 , i know cuz i’m instate and i know people that got in as long as they were above a 3.0

estara, the difference may be differences for instate vs. out of state. Most of the out of state transfers we’ve heard back from in the past had much higher GPA’s than 3.0. It certainly wouldn’t be an automatic in, even for an instate student, with a 3.0 GPA from their previous college.
