I would appreciate any insights regarding these two programs as I’m struggling to decide between them.
A little more background. I’m Instate VA but received a scholarship from UMD (very grateful) which equalized the cost so this is not a factor. My intended focus within bioengineering is tissue engineering and artificial organs rather than devices and diagnostic equipment. UMD has made a huge investment in this area with the new Clark Hall. Extremely impressive building & labs. One of the difficulties I have found is because this is a relatively new field of engineering that it is more difficult to find good comparative information, ranking information or even comments from previous students.
Any input would be appreciated.
I don’t think you can go wrong with either choice. UVA is obviously a great school with a lot of national recognition. On the other hand, the location of UMD might be better from an internship perspective. My daughters are Chemical Engineer and Cell Biology and Genetics majors respectively. Both have had internships in a well known cancer research lab at Johns Hopkins (only about 30 miles north). There are numerous other opportunities within a 25-30 mile radius of campus to get valuable experience, both in the private and public sectors.
@DavidHopkins Thank you for the input !
