UMD College Park class of 2022 EA discussion

Admitted students day was exhausting but informative. The breakout sessions at D’s intended major was good with student panels available to answer many questions. Did feel a bit rushed cause there was a fair amount of walking between buildings but we managed. Campus is pretty and felt like a true college campus even tho outside isn’t much of a college town feel. However, easy access to DC is huge in terms of things to do for fun as well as internship opportunitues. The dorms could use some updating.

My D and I had a great experience yesterday at the Admitted Students event. We hustled around to different sessions as she wanted to see a lot. Then stopped by a mall on the way home. 15,000 steps, many up hills or stairs… I was so tired!

Thank you for all the feedback on Admitted Student Day. I wish we had registered for a date in March instead of April. We are looking forward to visiting!

It was freezing and really windy yesterday! We were back there for another event today and it was much better. It will be gorgeous in a few weeks…a lot of the flowering trees looked ready to flower. Spring in the Mid-Atlantic is really beautiful. So maybe waiting will be better!

For anyone who is local, UMD is hosting Maryland Day on April 28.

i’d recommend figuring out parking well in advance - it was very confusing, crowded and hard to find the parking lot.

Thanks, I will plan to plan ahead and get there early. I can’t stand rushing and adding unnecessary stress.

We were a little disappointed that our D didn’t receive any merit aid but then she got an e-mail this morning saying she was awarded the Journalism President’s Scholarship. $20k distributed evenly over 4 years. Great news. So don’t give up hope on merit if you didn’t receive any yet. Perhaps departmental merit aid is only starting to come out now.

Woot congratulations @MrazFan100 !!

Ditto above re: mrazfan100. DS Received J school scholarship on 3/16 after UMD was off the list because of no merit and being OOS. Now back on list, #1 spot - Go Terps! See you next week at the lacrosse Pacific Coast Shootout.

Did anyone here rd admissions from umcp?

I don’t think UMD has released Regular Decisions yet and the campus is on Spring Break right now

@SoofDad well the admissions counselors are still working right? They don’t have spring break

does anyone know how strong umd’s premed program is? or how it compares to georgetown?

@JakeS27 - With the snow storm yesterday, I’m not sure who is there right now. UMD was closed yesterday.

@JakeS27 Much of the campus staff including Admissions were off Monday and Tuesday for spring break. Yesterday was a snow day and today they open at 10. I recommend following Maryland Admissions on Twitter for updates. Good luck!

@Scrazybully no rd info on this thread. The EA refers to early action which is technically priority decision at Maryland. All admission results and discussions of invites to programs, and merit award have been about the applicants that applied by the Nov 1 deadline.

This is the first year that Maryland has used the Coalition App, so there is no predictability of when regular decisions will be released. Hang in there. Best of luck.

hi everyone! does anyone know how to view financial aid? I’ve tried making an account and everything but it won’t show up. also does anyone know if it’s possible to switch the honors college LLP you’re placed into? hopefully everyone’s been getting more acceptances!!

I’m also confused. I was accepted into the Honors College of UMD. Everyone of my friends that got into Honors got some form of merit scholarship (1 kid got 2k, another 8k, and 2 got 12k a year). Even my friend that did not get into the honors program got 2k a year. I got 0. Anyone know whats going on here? I am heavily considering this school but I can’t afford it without some help. (I’m out of state if that helps). Thanks

@noamaharon Unfortunately, admission to Honors College is NOT tied to merit awards. They are independent of each other, and merit money is very limited.

I know students that were admitted to scholars that got more $ than some honors college students, and some students that did not get invites to special programs but did get merit $.

It is a coincidence that all of your friends happen to be among the few students that were both invited to honors college and received merit money.
