Hi I was recently accepted into UMD's college park scholar's program for journalism and media. I fell in love with UMD when I visted and it is really close to home for me. However, I also got accepted into BU's Honor's college for the school of communications. Plus they gave me waaay more finacial aid than UMD. Which program has better opportunities? Should I just pick boston because of the money even though I loved Maryland? My head says Boston but my heart says Maryland!

Boston has better ranking.

Go where you think you will be the happiest. Going to a school for money makes sense, but going to a skill for a number ranking is silly.

Go with what feels right. Good luck!

I can vouch for UMD being amazing.

First of all, a difference of less than 10 places apart is insignificant.
Secondly, it’s silly to base your decision on USNWR rankings.

I would agree that the universities are comparably good, and you should base your decision on a combination of fit and cost.

Some people really like that urban, campus-less feel that BU has; some people hate it. Some people really like the feel of a university campus and big-time college sports; some people hate it. You seem to prefer Maryland. If it won’t break the bank, you should go there.

Especially since you mentioned that it’s close by. It’s not hard to get from Baltimore or Washington to Boston, but it costs money. And it costs money every single time you or your parents do it. That would cut into the savings of going to BU.

Don’t let rankings make the decision for you; go to the school you are most happy with. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s true. I go to UMD, but a lot of my friends go to BU because I’m from MA, and they have told me BU is great, and I have the same things to say about UMD. You can get opportunities at either school as long as you work towards what you want. Also keep in mind the living costs in Boston are much higher.

They are both excellent universities. I can’t make the decision for you. I can certainly recommend UMD based on my personal experience. I have found an incredible niche here. I have not found one unhappy student here. Academics are superb. Opportunities for internships are at your reach. I agree with IVavi, the costs of living will be higher in Boston-by the way, I believe the weather will be better in MD than in Northeast as well. Just love it here, plain and simple.
Visit those schools again before May 1st, and you’ll just know.

If you don’t mind my asking, what are your stats when you applied because I too am applying to both schools and I’m just curios as to what is took for you to get in.
