Hi all,
I was accepted to UMD in the Scholars program. In the future, I would like to apply to medical school. I know UMD has a good record of getting students into great medical schools, but would it matter that I am only in the Scholars program and not Honors? Would it affect my chances of getting into a top-ranked medical school, or would it affect my recommendation that I get from the school? In other words, would I be at any disadvantage if I attend UMD as a pre-med student in Scholars when applying to medical school? Also, is there anyone on here who is in Scholars who can describe a little about the program? I understand it is only 2 years, while Honors is 4.
Thanks in advance!
Will NOT make a difference. The only thing that affects med school admissions is your own gpa, outside activities (such as research) you participate in, and MCAT scores. Departmental Honors is far more selective (and therefore more impressive/helpful) because it is based on college performance, not high school. So, aim for that. Depending on the department, the application for that is either for sophomore or junior year.
