UMD Honors vs. Scholars

What is the difference between UMD Honors and Scholars??

What GPA, rank, and SAT do you need to get into Honors and Scholars?

There is big difference.

Honors is a 4 yr program and Scholars is a 2 yr program.

In a nutshell if your wgpa is below a 4.0 something and 1300 out of 1600 scholars is a no go. Honors ranks higher. Most BK recipients are Honors.

Our DS is scholars and got Presidential.

if my wgpa is a 4.9 and i’m above 1300 can i get into honors? what do you think the minimum sat score is for honors, and what is the main focus on the application that makes you a candidate for their honors program?

You should get in easily.

does anyone know?

There’s probably no set minimum SAT score for honors, though I doubt they go below 1250ish. Average SAT score for this year’s honors was above 1400. That’s not all they look at though, because I got in it with a 1300. GPA, I’d agree in most cases you need an above 4.0 weighted GPA. Besides GPA and SAT, they’ll look at stuff like your essays, recommendations, strength of schedule, and activities/extracurriculars. Basically very similar to how the University decides to admit you. After everyone is admitted, I believe how it works is Honors sees all the admitted students applications and decides who to offer an invitation to. Then from the remaining Scholars picks who they want to invite. And everyone left just gets admission to UMD. It will say with your admission (even if you check online) if you got Honors or Scholars, so if it doesn’t say anything that means you didn’t get it.

Don’t know what a wgpa of 4.9 means. It would be more helpful to post your uGPA and list your AP/IB courses. There is no special application, they do everything with the same app (deadlline Nov 1), … do your best on the essay and you probably still have time to take the SAT again if you think it would help.
