UMD Housing due to COVID-19

I understand that students signed up for residency halls for next semester are able to cancel it giving the fact that 80% of classes (schedule is released) will be online. Unfortunately this is not true for Courtyards and Commons, where students signed lease in the winter, before the quarantine. All of my son’s classes are online, he won’t be staying in Cortyards, but he is not allowed to cancel lease, so unless he finds someone to re-lease it we’re still liable for monthly payments. A lot of his friends are in the same boat. The Cortyards are public-private partnership with UMD and it should follow same rules as Residency Halls.
