I just found out I got into Maryland, the problem is Umich was my first choice and Maryland my second and I got into both. I didnt get any financial aid at any of the two but Michigan is much more expensive, but the question is, I know Maryland is very good but Michigan is higher ranked, which one do you think would be a better choice? Is Michigan worth what it costs or is Maryland a better value overall? I would really appreciate your opinions. Thanks!

i got into both too, and i chose umd over umich. i'm in business, and i was already in the business school at umd and honors so i thought that was better for me. at umich, i'm not even guaranteed into the business school in my sophmore year and i'd like to be in a business school rather than take econ as my major for all my 4 years.

also, i know michigan is better ranked but in the end, i liked umd better. it's closer to me, it's warmer, and the people seemed great when i went to visit. umich seemed more party-like to me, while umd seemed balanced between academics and partying.

that's just my opinion, but you could love umich a lot more than umd. goodluck!

don't think about rankings for a minute.

which school do you LIKE better? which campus do you think is nicer? where can you see yourself being happier?

that's the school you should go to.

UMich is head and shoulders above UMD in practically every aspect, especially business. If you can afford it, go to Michigan. It'll make a huge difference when you're applying to graduate school.
