UMD REGULAR DECISION TRANSFER 2015

I just recently noticed that there were acceptances that went out for priority applicants today! I thought I would make a thread for anyone who is applying as a regular decision transfer applicant!
Also, I was wondering if anyone knows how difficult it is to be accepted as RD transfer student? UMD is my number one so I am hoping for an acceptance!

from what ive heard it is difficult to be accepted as RD applicant simply because of the amount of spaces left. i was expecting my decision today because i called about a month ago to confirm whether or not i made the priority deadline and i was told i did. As it turns out, that was false because nothing has changed in my application portal or maybe i got rejected? idk i shall call tommrow

I think it’s difficult but it’s not impossible. It turns out I missed the priority deadline so I hope my 3.8 and Phi Theta Kappa (will likely be a 3.9 or so at the end of the semester) will be able to get me in

i have almost the same stats as you and situtation lol. 3.74 gpa. phi theta kappa. somehow missed priority deadline. hopefully there are still spots open for us!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I called and asked UMD how hard it actually is to be accepted and he said that they take a lot of factors in such as extra curriculars, grades, etc. So they said they try and make as much room as possible for RD students. Hoping for the best for all of us! Good luck!!

@tsixe121 @solidsn I know they gave out plenty of spots already but I’m sure they still have a fair amount left. We’re very qualified applicants, so I’m hoping that we’re able to get those last rd spots. And they say that they take plenty of factors but I hear that GPA is the primary thing that they look at. I don’t think they’ll accept a regular applicant who doesn’t have at least a 3.5 GPA. We’ll see though. It just sucks that we’re gonna have to wait until July for a decision

@malva27x I was just looking at older forums and some people for RD heard around June 26th and I also saw one person accepted with a 3.46… So I have hope for us! Hopefully this thread can help RD students next year because I have had some trouble finding accepted RD transfer students stats from last year.

@tsixe121 Yeah I have nothing but confidence! And if you find any detailed rd transfer forums, please direct me to them. I’m having trouble finding a decent priority forum too. And ppl don’t post if they get rejected, they only post if they get in. So on here it seems like most ppl are accepted even though that may not be the case

@malva27x so I thought I would share this info for you I went on a tour yesturday and I asked the tour guide who once worked in the admissions office about the difficulty on being accepted as a RD student and he informed me that it is not as difficult to be accepted as a RD student as a transfer… Maryland has an understanding that it can be difficult to get your transcripts put together and sent. Hope this gives you more hope!

A single case won’t give you a general info, but I thought it might give you guys a minor relief. My application was submitted in Mar 9th. I got in with a rather consistent 2.87 GPA as a junior transfer (2.9 first semester, 2.8 second semester, 2.9 third semester) for physics. However, I wrote the essay twice as better than any sample you’ll find in Google, and even though my extracurricular list wasn’t eye-popping, it did demonstrate activities that were done for inherent values rather than practical, resume-filling purpose, such as reading non-fiction voraciously, stargazing, etc, etc. I don’t think I ever came off as the sort of commonly seen attention-addicts deliberately trying to impress the admissions office, but as someone genuinely interested in learning and having a unique intellect.

And I don’t know they helped at all, but I didn’t apply for financial aid and I’m international (Korean). But if my case demonstrates anything, GPA isn’t everything. Good luck on your results!

Omg @QuantumGuy7 you just gave me so much hope I really needed it lol. I have a 3.0 and kinda just applied to UMD on a whim. I’m hating myself for not applying priority right about now, umd is my first choice, and i’m trying to be optimistic!

@caribbeancurse Hahaha best of luck with you!

hey, I just applied to UMD regular action as a transfer sophomore today. It was really something done at the last moment because my parents forced me to… I really don’t think I would get in and just wanted to hear some feedback : my college gpa is a 2.94 and I did no extracurriculars this year .

Hey @amel10 what’s your stats? Like credits and whatnot

Two good recommendations, a lot of volunteer work, pretty nice essay, 76 credts compiled from an instate community college (3 classes shy of an associates), and a general biology major… odds of me getting in with a 2.7 gpa?

I think I’m personally screwed lol.

You’re not screwed! Lets just hope!

Well my final transcript was just sent out I got a 3.33 with 30 credits… 2.93 first semester and 3.69 second… Pretty nervous too. Hoping with a hispanic background, many community service activities, great letter of rec, and clubs will help me out but we shall see. Good luck to everyone!!

@caribbeancurse i have 37 credits

Omg lol I get more excited as the days go by! I hope we all get in!

Does anyone know if Maryland starts reviewing applications only after June 1?
