UMD regular decision

does anyone know how many people applied for regular decision and the percentage of applicants they are gonna take from the RD?

Why not apply by the priority deadline?

I was in mixed feelings about applying to umd but i am applying on a whim @invader71 i might apply priority for spring

Alright but you should know that it is more difficult to gain acceptance to umd during the regular decision cycle. UMD selects a huge portion of its incoming class from those who apply by the priority deadline. Additionally, many scholarships and honors/scholars programs are tied to the priority deadline.

what are my chances of getting in.
for priority spring and regular fall? @invader71

My recommendation would be to apply priority for spring and if that doesn’t work out then you could always reapply for the fall. I applied priority for the fall and was accepted.

Does UMD CP have any kind of special transfer arrangement or agreement with your college? You have enough credits to transfer that the school will not look at your standardized test scores; however, you still have an average or slightly below average GPA for UMD.

I already applied for rd for this fall @invader71 @acurrey416

Then you should know very soon

what are my chances be honest @acurrey416 @invader71

The only issue I could see is your GPA is a little low. I was in basically the same position credit wise and I got in but I had a 3.45 and I know that regular decision is harder than priority but if you wrote a good essay then they might give you a shot. Do you have the gen math and gen english credit? Cuz that helps boost your chances too (although I did not have them and got in)

the UMD website said for the Fall 2014 transfer class, the average GPA was a 3.45, so you would be on the lower end of that scale.

Please describe your past academic experiences and your reasons for wishing to enroll to Maryland at this point in your academic career. Students who have been out of school for several years, or who have a personal circumstance that affected performance, may wish to address that situation in their essay. Your essay should be no more than 300 words.*

University of Maryland College Essay
University of Maryland college park is a well renowned institution throughout the country. It is a beautiful institution with what looks like positive and productive surroundings. College park is arguably the most prestigious university in the state of Maryland. Throughout my academic career I’ve always harbored this little bit of faith in enrollment and acceptance to college park.
Currently, I am a sophomore undergraduate student at the University of Maryland eastern shore as a biology major. My academic adviser had told me that I am close to the halfway point of my academic career and I felt that it is time to make some suitable changes. Some of these changes include moving to a nearby university while earning a high quality degree. Another of these changes is to discipline myself through the university’s undergraduate biological science program in order to prepare me for a productive role in healthcare as a physician assistant.
As a young and active individual, I will bring leadership and character to your prestigious institution by taking advantage of the productive resources that would surround me. I always try to push my academic limits in order to progress towards my long term goals of becoming a

Physician assistant. If enrolled, I will be an enthusiastic asset to such groups as the African Student Association and intramural soccer. The biggest contribution that I would make is to the university’s undergraduate biological sciences program by demonstrating hard work equipped with being a terp. Apart from this, I look forward to being a part of a greatly diverse family and finding a new home that is not too far from home.

@acurrey416 you transferred in without having fundamental math and English completed?

naw i have it completed @acurrey416

@takashi13 You are going to need to edit and revise that essay. It has typos and you haven’t explained why your past academic experiences qualify you to acceptance into UMD. You haven’t really explained why you want to go to Maryland other than the fact that it is prestigious The essay comes off as sucking up…

@ewskater yes i did. but I had a 3.45 GPA and i was transferring from Villanova (a rather prestigious university, not like a community college) and my essay was really good, in my opinion.

@takashi13 I’m going to have to agree wtih @invader71 on this one. It does not seem like you said a whole lot in that essay. The university knows that they have many resources available to you, but HOW will you use them or what specific resources are most appealing to you? also they expect you to excel in your major but how specifically do you hope to be a stand out student? things like that help boost your chances. Obviously no one on here can say for sure but I guess you will see in a few weeks. Best of luck.

@acurrey416 I’m sure transferring from Villanova had a huge impact on that decision. Hopefully, my 3.5 Gpa could help me for the spring since I’m applying without fundamental math- although it should show on my transcript that I’m taking it in the fall before I was to attend.

@ewskater With the 3.5 and the fundamental studies courses done or at least in progress it looks like you’re right on target for acceptance (based on what I know) so just write a solid essay and maybe get some recommendations and you should be pretty well set up
