@lenmonster thank you so much for your info. My parents and I are currently trying to see if I will be choosing between the view and the varsity. I don’t want to wait until July and be let down for on campus housing
I’m a transfer student from the University of New Hampshire looking to go into Smith College. I have a 3.5 GPA and I’m more than likely to get above a 3.75 this spring semester. I’ve done plenty of extra-curricular activities to strengthen my resume on top of intramural sports. The problem is that I applied before the priority deadline and I STILL haven’t received my decision, on top of that I e-mailed Kisha Bates in the undergraduate admissions office yesterday morning and haven’t gotten a reply yet. Can anybody help ease my stress levels?
@acurrey416 The financial aid page says we’ll be notified of our aid on May 1st http://financialaid.umd.edu/receiving_aid/disbursement_schedule.php
@dc2062UNH I’m in the same boat!
I also applied before the priority deadline. I called the admissions office yesterday around 9am, and they told me to email Ms. Bates, too, so I promptly did just that. Haven’t heard from her yet. I know it’s incredibly busy for their office this time of year… I’m also worrying because UMD is my first choice and I have to confirm my decision to my second choice where I was accepted by May 1! All we can do is wait patiently… I’ll write when I hear back from the admissions office or Ms. Bates.
@dc2062UNH Im also a student at UNH right now and applied to Umaryland and Smith school. I heard back a couple days ago. I got into the school but not into my major at smith right away. They said to send me second semester grades for further consideration. I applied with a 3.58, and I’ll also be receiving something around a 3.7 this semester. I would say you’ll definitely get into Maryland and a good chance of getting into Smith. Im currently a freshmen, and I think I haven’t taken certain required courses for the Smith school yet. Good Luck
If you’re choosing between those two, go with the View. Trust me. WAY better security and quieter…especially View 1. The Varsity has people roaming the halls that shouldn’t be there, doors propped open, etc. View 2 is newer but the suites on the Route 1 side can be really noisy. View 1, while older, is closer to the campus, with the View 2 between it and Route 1, and one side of the building faces a very quiet area…the Paint Branch Trail. If you’re going to do it, it’s better to do it early. Certain suites sell out earlier.
Any transfers for the fall looking for a roommate? Looks like I need an off campus apartment and im super friendly! I’ll be a junior in the fall.
@acurrey416 I just signed up for a 2 bedroom at the view earlier today with no roommate (prob will get random assignment) i applied for a room on the same floor as my maryland friends.
Are you a boy or a girl? I’m a girl so I’d be looking for a girl roommate.
(I’ll also be a Junior. I’m Animal Science, won’t bother you because I’m really solitary, I’m def not boring though, I’m kinda weird I guess (at least I feel like others would describe me that way… this sounds so 2009)? But I’m assuming not in a bad way because somehow I have friends)
@kmartin3 I was looking at the view but I didn’t want to commit before I had the chance to visit when I go for orientation, but I am a girl too!
Ill be a criminology and criminal justice major. I’m pretty laid back and quiet too so there’s nothing wrong with that!
@kmartin3 Just PMed you!
Also looking for a female roommate for The View, preferably View 1. I’m fine with any number, but would prefer quieter roommates who are on the neater side!
I’m a sociology major (probably switching to psychology if I get into the LEP), pretty much a sophomore based on credits? I’ll be joining the equestrian club (and maybe team), and definitely going to be spending a lot of my time at the gym there.
I also run my own cosmetics brand, so any future roommates will probably get spoiled with makeup.
@acurrey416 I understand! If I’m still looking for a roommate in the future and you decide for the view I’ll def contact you.
@noelsitnick
I PMed you back! Super cool you will be joining/being apart of the equestrian club/team. I’m trying out for a club volleyball team for sure.
Also very enticing with the makeup. I literally adore makeup and I love trying tons of new styles and such. I’m pretty good with makeup because I’m an artist so I guess it translates over.
@zachaah thanks for the info, much appreciated. Did maryland specify any courses needed to get into smith college? because I’m a sophomore and I don’t really have much time to be going to school and not taking classes inside my major. By the end of the semester i’ll have admn 400, econ 401, econ 402, admn 502, admn 403, math 424 all done toward my major. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
Hey i have a 3.3 with 31 credits, applying to economics department. What do you think are my chances? And is the econ major good compared to northeasterns?
@Spinner95 To be honest the information you provided isn’t enough to tell you eligibility to get accepted into the University of Maryland. They take into consideration a lot of other things besides your GPA, like your essay, recommendations, extra-curricular activities, etc.
@dc2062UNH They did not specify unfortunately. I agree going into junior year you don’t have the time to take courses outside of the business school. Keep me updated with your results, as it will be a good indicator for me as well.
Registered for the email/orientation on May 1. Reviewing a few concepts for the math placement this week and taking that soon. Also - how did you guys check your transfer evaluation aside from using the artsys, has the university checked it and made it known what they will take? GO TERPS!
UMD uses Artsys for their evaluations. That should be really consistent.
@towermethod I emailed admissions and got the same message. She verified that my application made the deadline, and told me that I’ll get a decision by May 1st. That’s in nearly two more weeks. I’m guessing that this applies to all MTAP students.
@zachaah will do.
@lenmonster @exponential Artsys tends to be outdated. UMD has its own transfer credit database that is usually more reliable.
Go to “Complete Search”, type in the school you’re transferring from, and Ctrl-F to find your course.
