@takashi13 i think you have fair chances. I looked online and the fall 2015 transfer profile is a gpa of 3.39. If you don’t mind me asking, why are you leaving UMES ?
Anyone send in their spring transcripts yet for second review into a LEP?
@carribeancurse I want to be closer to home and I feel the school is disoorganized especially when it comesto my major.
@takashi13 oh okay cool
Has anyone taken that math placement test? Do we need to take it or is there any way to waive it? I’m transferring from UMBC, before that I got my A.A. from Montgomery College. Last math I took was Statistics at UMBC. I don’t get why I should take a placement test. ( I hate math btw lol) Anyone have any info on this??
From what I understand all transfers need to take it so it cant hurt to take it and then talk with your advisor at orientation about it. I had also taken stats previously and they did not accept it so I had to take the placement test and retake statistics (i hate math too haha). That placement test sucks btw haha good luck!
@LuxSemper … I took the MPE a few days ago… sounds like you took your last math class a while back so it might seem intimidating (plus u mentioned u dont like math). There is a way to waive it off if your math credit is ‘calc 1’ and does transfer, if not you have to take it, there is no way to place you in the right math class if you dont take the MPE, plus it saves you a semester or two if you do well, else you’d be adding semesters of math development… its pretty straight forward, lots of materials that can help … 4 sections…
…
@acurrey416 really? what school did you take your last statistic class at? if u don’t mind me asking. I looked on the credit transfer site and from what I saw (maybe I saw it wrong) , the statistics I took at UMBC would transfer… hmm crap maybe it doesn’t.
@TeeAB2015 It wasn’t a while back, I took statistics this past spring 2015 semester. Before that, yeah it was a while since I had taken a Math class. But do grades count for anything? I hate math but I did well in the class. (Final grade was an A) I just hate when they have placement tests with old stuff you don’t remember and have to re-learn/freshen up on. I feel like if you have taken several college level math courses, you shouldn’t need a placement test I didn’t need one for UMBC. I never took one there. I know its not the same school but dang, you would think they wouldn’t ask you for that.
@LuxSemper well I do understand what you mean.
Yes grades count but it has to be evaluated by the Math department in order to ensure it transfers. Which is a long process of emailing the dept and also sending the grade and syllabi of that particular course. The placement test practically eliminates the whole process.
I thought about evaluating mine also but I figured the test couldnt be that hard.
But if you want it evaluated, give it a shot but do keep in mind that if it doesnt transfer then you’d have to take the MPE.
@LuxSemper I took stat at Villanova and they didnt accept it but I’m challenging it so it might work out. and if the database says they accept it you might be okay but I would take the placement test just as a back up. Half of that stuff I hadn’t seen or done since probably junior or senior year in high school (and i’ll be a junior at umd in the fall) so I totally understand what you’re saying but I did well enough to place where I needed to so I wouldn’t stress too much. Just don’t procrastinate it and do it the night before orientation. What helped me was doing like a section or two at a time to give my brain some rest
@acurrey416 Oh ! they let you come back to it instead of needing to finish it all in one go? Cause thats not bad. lol
Yeah its like 4 or 5 different sections that get harder as you go. Each one is like a half hour or 45 minutes so its not too bad.
is any1 looking for a room or a roommate off campus for this fall? Inbox me if you have any questions! I am a male transferring in as a junior.
@LuxSemper if you don’t mind me asking, what are your reasons for transferring from UMBC to UMD? I have alot of friends who go there when instead of umd and I always wondered what was the cons of that school lol
hey guys,
Is anyone commuting to UMD from rockville or any place nearby? I cannot afford the dorm or off campus housing, so I’m looking to split gas with someone if we can carpool together. If interested, please let me know asap.
Add me on Kik if you’re interested : aaronramsey4
@caribbeancurse Well I live closer to DC than I do Baltimore so the commute was annoying but also UMD was my first choice school. I’ve always wanted to go to UMD, I was raised here & most of my family graduated from there so I saw Terp stuff constantly during my childhood. Just a tradition thing. But I transferred bc its where I wanted to go. I didn’t do too well back when I first started community college so when I applied after receiving my A.A., my GPA(2.3) was too low and I got denied at UMD. I figured I’d get denied but took my chances and applied anyway but wasn’t a surprise.
I went to UMBC for a year and brought my GPA up to 3.5 and applied again and got accepted this time.
UMBC is a good school and you really get to focus on your academics bc the area n campus is very quiet so no real distractions but I’ve always been a commuter student so Im not sure what campus life is like if ur in a dorm. But some people don’t like that and feel there “isn’t anything to do there”. That could be a con for some. Also something that would have helped me and could be considered a con is that their options for online classes are very very limited. They don’t offer many , if they do, (at least for my major) It was a hybrid of online and in person.
For me, there wasn’t many cons. I didn’t complain. My only problem was the commute and I didn’t want to live on campus when my job and everything was back at home closer to DC. Plus I feel too old to live on campus lol. I’m 25. I took way too much time out of school.
@gunnerforlife If you can get yourself to the Universities at Shady Grove, there is a free shuttle from there to College Park that runs on weekdays. http://shadygrove.umd.edu/about/visit/public-transportation/faq
@vertiegogh, thanks for the info!
Does anyone know when the transfer scholarships for the spring semester open?
