UMD vs. Georgetown

Hey guys this is my first post on this website. I have a question about college decisions. I am between georgetown and umd college park for a biology major. The main reason I am unsure is because I got the Banneker/Key scholarship to UMD, which is a full ride plus books. Georgetown will be 50 grand a year. What do you guys think? Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on BK! I think you could get a great education at either school. IMO your experience is in large part what you make of it, no matter what university you attend. If grad school is in the cards, or even if it isn't, you might want to consider the financial aspect carefully. Being saddled with significant debt can be a real burden.

Def UMD..Def

hey! im in the exact position! (bk or gtown) i think you just have to decide which one you like best and if you like maryland just as much as georgetown then you should go to maryland. but if you think that you'll regret NOT going to georgetown, then go there. . .or vice versa.

thanks for all your help! Ill be attending Maryland in the fall. thanks for the good advice.

Same situation here with the banneker vs. Tufts. and GWU and BU. I chose Maryland, even though I prefer the other schools, because of the money. And from the looks of the message boards it looks like alot of the BK people made the same choice - so we'll all be in the same boat next year. College is going to be what we make of it.

I chose Maryland too!! It makes me feel a lot better to hear that other people made this same choice. Can't wait to meet you next year!

maryland definitely

For biology, full tuition and books scholarship at Maryland is well worth it.
IMO, there's only a few majors at Georgetown that could trump that.
Now the experience could weigh in.

Our S chose MD over Duke and WashU, also a B/K recipient. Looks like he's going to major in Math and CS. $50K/yr is a lot of money that could be used for other worthwhile things. Imagine investing that for 40yrs.
