I was recently handed the unfortunate opportunity of choosing between UMD and UNC. All kidding aside, I really need some help making this decision.

UMD:
Instate, Cheaper, $23,000. (Not sure about aid yet)
3 of my best friends already go here
Not guaranteed housing :/
30 min. from home
Great campus
Close to the city

UNC:
OOS, $38,000 (Not sure about aid) EFC is around $8,000
I know ZERO people at UNC- very exciting
Guaranteed housing
Supposedly in a great area
5 hours from home
Have always wanted to go there

What do you guys think? I'm undecided in my major, so I'm not really sure what I want to after college. I may want to go to law school. I love both schools, but have not yet visited UNC. I will be visiting soon.

This is quick, as I’m getting ready to go out of town…we live in Charlotte, and both my 2 Ds attend UMD (were both accepted at UNC-CH, neither with any desire to go there…) I can give you some background on why they chose UMD (quick version is that they both wanted to be in/near a large city, D1 wanted to be close to NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, got good scholarship (although still costs more than in-state at UNC). D2’s main reasons were to be near DC, her sister had such experience there, and both of them wanted to be near each other…She has LOVED UMD. Both of them had several friends that go to Chapel Hill, and neither of them has regrets about not going there.

Let me know if you have specific questions I can help with. When are you going to be visiting UNC?

I think I’m going to UNC sometime in May. I spent tonight at UMD with my friends and I think after tonight I’m going to choose Chapel Hill.
