Good to know that you are already a 7 year Programmer. I have some questions for you.

Can you do your first summer's research at ANY institution? Or are there select institutions in NJ to choose from?

Also, how is the food in the dorms? I hope foodisgood! 8-)
Is there sufficient room in your individual dorm room to keep a microwave and fridge?

Do they let all 7 year Programmers live in the same area of the dorm or are you mixed up with all other students in your dorms?

How is the boys to girls ratio in this program? Hope it's not awfully skewed.

Does TCNJ help you with preparation for MCATs or do you individually take MCAT prep courses with Kaplan?

Phew! I know it's a lot of questions but I think you are the best person to answer since you are a current Programmer.

You can do research at any institution but you just have to make sure to get it approved at TCNJ. NJMS lets you in very easily if you choose to go there for research.

The main cafeteria food is not that great but I heard its better than other colleges. The main freshmen dorms (Travers and Wolfe) have a cafeteria in the basement thats open from 6 PM to midnight and the food is basically stuff like cheesestakes, burgers, mozz sticks, and ice cream. There is also a cafeteria in the student center. You have unlimited food at the main cafeteria but you have to use meal plan points at the Travers wolfe cafeteria and the student center. You can keep an microwave and fridge in your room. 7 years are mixed in with everyone, there is no special dorm. Girl to boy ratio for my year is skewed towards girls but its generally ok. The school ratio is 70/30 girls/boys. I'm not sure about mcat prep (i'm only a freshman) but I think the college provides some assistance to all premeds (nothing special for 7 years).

foodisgood...who are you? pm me...i was there, i'll let ya know who i am.

Thanks, foodisgood.

Yes. We were there for the Open house too. Although not everyone must have shown up yesterday, at least in the random sample represented yesterday, it was clear that there is a statistically significant difference between the strength in numbers of girls vs boys in 7 year program.

Maybe that's not such bad news for my S. ;-)

we got a letter from albany medical college (granting acceptance) for the rpi/albany program - but nothing from njms for the tcnj(and other ugs)/njms program? Does njms not send anything?

Hi 4Peace,

It's possible that your letter might be delayed or lost in mail. Why not make a call to Dr Shevlin and make a gentle enquiry?

We rec'd our letter last Tuesday.

Foodisgood,

On our tour, they mentioned that there is one other dorm besides the towers for freshmen. This building was on left hand side of the towers, as we approached the towers from the Biology building. Do you think the rooms in towers are better than this other building or is it the other way around?

Also, from your experience, how noisy are the rooms in the towers?

Thanks!

oh we did get letters from the ug colleges (tcnj, drew, rutgers etc) with acceptance to ba/md program but none from njms itself and wondered if we should not have recvd one from njms

Yea, your talking about cromwell. Its a lot different from the towers, every two rooms share a bathroom and the rooms are a bit smaller than the rooms in the towers. In the towers, the whole floor has two common bathrooms. In terms of which is better, everyone gets used to their room after a while. I lived in the towers this year and enjoyed it for the most part. I know people in cromwell who also loved living there. Also in cromwell, each room has to clean their own bathroom while in the towers, the common bathrooms are cleaned by building staff. It can get noisy at times but that really depends on your floor. Any serious studying usually gets done in the library but you get used to commotion after a while.

I should also point out that you can't really choose your rooms for freshman year. What room you end up in depends on your fsp (freshman seminar class). Basically, they place each fsp on the same floor. Sophomore year onwards, housing is done through a lottery and you can choose your roommates.

For those who haven't read this already, interesting news on TCNJ.

Foodisgood,

Many thanks for the information you have provided.
Would be great if you could encourage others in the 7 year Program to post their experiences as well.

sent in the enrollment today.

So did my S.

Hi All,
Do post if you did as well.

If any of you CC'ers accepted UMDNJ's 7 year BA/MD program, please post a note.

It would be good to know who is joining this Fall.

I did accept TCNJ/UMDNJ-NJMS-7yr BS/MD program. It was a very difficult decision as I had few very good offers on my plate. Looking forward to meet my fellow 7yr BS/MD in August!

Just heard that only 21 students are enrolling in TCNJ/UMDNJ 7 year Bach/MD program.

Hyrdogen3K, This is perhaps why they had sent out acceptances to 43 students. They had already accounted for attrition due to multiple acceptances.

Hi Foodisgood,

Could you do me a favor and post the curriculum for General Chem II?

Thanks much
