Thanks a lot that was very helpful.
You are fine. Read below from Frost website. Also at the EA auditions they said all Frost applicants will received music merit scholarship decisions in mid march.
Thank you. Thatâs encouraging! Wonder if that means definitely no premier scholarship, though.
Thanks! My daughter received a new itinerary when she checked in on audition day. The students had a general information session at 9:00. The parents had one at 10:00. There were student ambassadors giving tours of Frost to those who would like them. Many programs had their own individualized information session but MSP did not due to schedule conflicts with the Professors. There were no interviews. But my daughter was contacted a couple of weeks later and was invited to do a group information session on Zoom with all three of the Professors and about 6 other kids who had auditioned on 12/4. The professors talked about the program and the kids were able to ask questions.
Hopefully youâll get to meet them in person on your sonâs audition day. Good luck!
Thatâs very helpful- thanks so much!!
Last yearâs posts looked like most RDs received similar merit. D21 did RD and received Merit. Merit and need stacked to get most folks to EFC or beyond. Make sure your CSS forms and IDOC forms are submitted if looking for need based as well.
I just wanted to give a little bit of a heads up for those on here who have or will have received an offer for spring admit âthings that current spring admits might have wanted to know before accepting the offer.
Housing is very limited due to a lack of planning on the Uâs part for the result of new construction of Centennial Village. The current spring admits were placed in various types of housing (converted study rooms, hotels near and far from campus, placed with upperclassmen in open beds) and as spring admits are the last to be able to choose housing for next year (unless they found an ED friend to room with next year - priority is placed on when you put your deposit in) which has left many with no choice but to find off-campus spots or be put on a waiting list that will go into summer.
Itâs an unfortunate situation and I would want to know if it were my S/D considering accepting a spring admit offer.
Do deferred students have to submit new mid year transcripts if they have pretty remained the same? Is it a requirement or is it an option for only those who wish to do so due major changes in testing and grades?
I believe itâs a requirement to send a Mid Year Report and I would send it as soon as possible.
Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! My son just got accepted to the spring semester through ED 2. We visited UM a few weeks ago to determine if we wanted to switch our deferred decision to ED 2 and getting any information out of the admissions office in person seemed to me like pulling teeth. I even asked a question about dorms and all they could say âyou canât get into any dormsâ.
In addition to losing a big part of the freshman experience, the steep cost of attending UM (which we were committing to absorb through ED) just got steeper with the crazy cost of housing in the Miami area. Tough decision lie ahead for anyone at UM that wants to live on campus.
I agree. Fall admits will have a tough time as sophomores getting on-campus housing but they have a chance. I donât even understand why spring admits is even a thing considering their limited housing options. Until Centennial Village fully completed, housing is going to be a problem.
This was published last month: https://www.themiamihurricane.com/2022/02/21/on-campus-housing-crisis-has-students-scrambling/
Iâm going to link this article in chat the next time there is a virtual admitted students meeting.
Hopefully that will force them to address it.
Please keep us posted on what they say. I will conduct my own diligence in Admitted Students one on one, discussion with admissions, and HRL.
Our student is accepted for fall '22 and now we need to visit! Probably going over spring break, but where should we stay/what else can we do to turn this into a mini vacation? We know nothing about the Miami area! Any cool resort ideas would be great, too. Weâll have a car and are open to driving!
@ipadqueen - congratulations! Did that notification just come through today? And was that for regular decision or ED2?
I would recommend staying in the Coconut Grove area which is only 2 miles from campus. Lots of water front areas and cool restaurants. I visited last month and stayed near campus at the Thesis Hotel. Little did I know it was partially turned into dorms, very loud after 2am!
Hello! I was recently deferred from EA and decided to continue in RD. I have a very good profile and I was even nominated for a premier scholarship (and I was still deferred ). UM is really my top choice and I am ready to commit if I get accepted.
- I wanted to know if someone knows someone that went through my same situation and if they were accepted during RD?
- I also wanted to know if you guys think I have a good chance of getting in during RD, after being nominated to a premier scholarship in the EA process?
Last year we needed a beach trip at the same time we were going for an accepted student session. We splurged on a room at a South Beach hotel - I did whatever had good ratings and on the side of road with the beach. I think it was an Omni property. It was about 30 minutes with traffic. Coconut Grove is also great on the harbor/waterfront area and is closer to UMiami.
There are lots of great places to eat in Miami. Cafe Versailles is a Miami institution and not too far from campus. Save room for dessert and get pastries for breakfast the next day
