UMiami..the next WashU?

I heard somewhere that UMiami is getting more prestigious and its programs, specifically engineering, are improving. I'm currently considering UMiami's Biomedical Engineering program, and Boston University's. I know BU's program is top ranked, but I havent heard much about UMiami's. I like miami's size, campus + life more, but I'm concerned I wont get as good of an education. Could Umiami be the next WashU?

If you mean overrated, yes i suppose it is possible.

Not likely. Wash U. has two things that allowed it to clim up the ranks:

1) A top 5 Medical school
2) A HUGE endowment

Miami does not have a top ranked department in Medicine or Law or Engineering or Business and its endowment of $750 million is actually on the small side. WUSTL's endowment was $750 million back in the 70s. Today, its endowment stands at almost $6 billion. With that wealth, it can spend a lot of money attracting top students and faculty with money.

Miami has a great location, but other than that, it doesn't have a lot of qualities that will allow it to have the same type of surge that WUSTL enjoyed in the 90s.

Agreed with Alexandre.
