I got accepted into the College of LSA as a student with an undeclared major. I plan on going in the biology/pre-med direction. I signed up for orientation on July 24-26th and I was wondering if I chose a bad day. By that I mean I’m scared that the classes I want to take (even though I don’t know yet which classes I want to take) will all be filled up. Am I being overly paranoid? Should I choose a new, earlier orientation day? If so, how do I even go about changing the date? Thanksssss.
My daughter is doing the session right before yours; it was that or just one week previous were the earliest still available, I think, when she went to sign up. She took forever to commit so that is what she ended up with. She is not worried about competing for classes, though. She figures she will get what she needs and she doesn’t mind early mornings, if those are considered undesirable. Hopefully it all works out like she needs it to!
I don’t think I’ll be TOO helpful because I’m in a similar position as you (1st year student too!) but I don’t think you’ll have TOO much to worry about. Because we’ll be working with advisors, I think they’ll be working to accommodate every student and making sure every student has a chance at their classes. But that being said, it being at a later date does increase the chances of classes being full so if you can do an earlier date, I think I would. See you in the fall!
Nah you’re fine. They hold spots in classes and release the spots slowly so it doesn’t give an unfair advantage to kids who go later
There are a lot of drop/adds and waitlist acceptances for classes the first couple weeks of classes. You will likely get everything you want during orientation, but if not, it eventually all works itself out early on after move in…
Welcome to the family.

I think it’s pretty early. I went to the late orientation (right before school started) as an out-of-state when I was a freshman but still got into most classes I wanted. You’ll be fine since international/transferred students sign up during late orientation. Additionally, there’s a late add/drop date after like two weeks of school so you can still modify your schedule by then! I’m in CoE so not so sure about the LSA policy tho

Is orientation mandatory? I just visited the school this weekend and we can’t really afford to keep sending me back and forth right now.
OP: I had that exact same orientation time my freshman year and it worked out perfectly for me. I was so nervous as well about not getting the times or classes I wanted. However, as a previous post mentioned, they hold a certain amount of spots in each course for each orientation date so that not being able to attend an earlier one does not hurt you.
@clvmsy I am pretty sure it is mandatory but maybe they can accommodate you in certain ways.
