DD self reported her SAT score (superscore from 2 sittings) in commonapp. She got an email from UMich that her application is complete (counselor sent over school info and LOR) over the weekend. But when she logged into the UMich application portal, her SAT score under the âYour Test Scoresâ is blank. The âTest Datesâ were listed correctly, but the âScoreâ is blank next to the test dates. Are others seeing the same thing with self reporting superscore in commonapp? or do you see your actual scores in the application portal?
My kid will be applying EA and super scoring as well. Their GC suggested they send official test scores because apparently before COVID official scores were either required or preferred. I just called admissions to askâI know it takes a few days for official scores to send from CB and didnât want to risk them not getting there by Nov. 1. The admissions rep said self-reporting is fine. It may be worth a call to ask why you canât see the scores you reported.
I just called UMich and the rep told me since DD self reported a superscore and not a complete score, the scores didnât show up in the application portal (I am guessing their system was not designed to support superscore before). But he assured me that they had the score and will superscore.
I suspect this is a problem with any school that doesnât superscore, as thereâs no optional way to report a single day score on the Common App. Itâs unlikely many students will release superscore dates to a set of schools then update the scores to release them to single day schools.
I assume all such schools will have to contact applicants and have them make updates/entries in their portal.
(Iirc, Michigan didnât used to superscore but I thought they now did, so this is odd. D had a single day score, so I didnât pay too close attention.)
Legacy question. On the common app there is a place for parent, school, degree. On the Michigan specific app, DD reports that under the family section, parent is grayed-out and sibling and grandparent are the available choices. Can I presume that the parent schooling from the common app will someone populate as legacy to UM admissions. Did others experience the same parent grayed-out option? TIA.
My son noticed same thing, which was different from when my older one applied EA 2 years ago (he could list every legacy/ family member as we had 4 generations including my husband who is an alum). Our counselor suggested putting in additional comments under the writing tab that his father is an alum - just to make sure the info is communicated.
Correct. But theyâve always said theyâll review all scores submitted, but that they do not superscore. Superscoring at UMich is probably a result of the pandemic.
They kinda, sorta, maybe superscored in the past but just didnât say that out loud. We were told they kinda peek at all the scores but use the highest scores on any one sitting if someone took it multiple times. This is why I always told students to send in all their scores. It wonât be used against them. It can only help.
D22 was able to log into enrollment connect yesterday and verify that her application is complete - it took 4 business days from submission. Now we just wait âŠ
Exact same timing for my S22. Just got the log in this morning and what a relief to see itâs complete.
Best of luck to your daughter! We are OOS but my son remains hopefulâŠ
My D22 is interested in economics/ business etc. Couple of essays are done but one of the Ross essays is not done yet. With the deadline looming large, trying to figure out what would best course of action. UMich LSA - Economics Major / 2 Essays vs UMich Ross - 4 Essays since we still have 2 days. Are there transfer opportunities from LSA to Ross after one or two years? Is there significant difference in the career path opportunities Economics/LSA vs Ross?
I think you have to do both if you want to get into Ross. First you have to get admitted to the University before Ross even reviews the application to the business school.
A BBA from Ross is a tremendous accomplishment and viewed highly by employers, but be sure to understand the program. The BBA they offer is different from other business schools. Economics majors at UM do very well in the job market and get awesome internships as well.
As stated first goal is to get accepted by the school first then Ross second. At Michigan you donât need Ross to be successful in Business. Ross is nice, no question but many Ross actually compete with non Ross Michigan students for the same jobs. Get a diploma from Michigan and be active on campus and internships /jobs will be yours. Good Luck.
Thank you @cmublue, @Knowsstuff - your info has been super helpful in clarifying the questions we have been grappling with. Thank you
In common app, in one of the sections - it asks for home school ( LSA) then you choose either LSA or residential college before selecting Ross. what is the LSA or residential college bit. Which one do we choose for Ross. Thanks
Is it ok to refer to UMich Ann Arbor as âU-Mâ in the essays? S22 is getting ready to submit his EA and wanted to confirm
Thanks!
We had submitted an incomplete Ross portfolio document for an artifact. Is there a way we can get the accurate document to the Admissions office on Monday Nov 1? Does UMich Admissions entertain this?
Thanks in advance
Itâs U of M or just Michigan or if your not over your wordage just University of Michigan. Itâs not U-M . But if applying to them you shouldnât need to say it often, right?
