Umich(ann arbor) vs CMU

3.5 does not mean you are guaranteed get in. 3.7+ is a great chance (as Alex said). Since Tepper/Ross is comparable, why risk it? You also have to realize the top 50% of Umich is smart and many do want to transfer into Ross.

Space may also change after Ross starts taking freshmen from HS next year.

Don't listen to Chibearsfan. The guy got into MIT but picked Michigan...and he didn't even get a scholarship to attend Michigan. The guy is a brainiac! LOL So naturally, a guy good enough to get into MIT will find Michigan relatively easy. But to most of us, a 3.5 GPA at Michigan is not easy. It is not impossible or even that difficult mind you, but it is not easy. You will have to apply yourself.

OK fine alexandre, you win this round, but I think the OP should post stats and stuff so we get a good idea for his/her chances to get the grades at umich necessary for Ross. I think CMU is fairly selective, so i assumed the OP had the stats necessary for Ross. And for the record, I did get money from Michigan, but only from the math department. It's not about the name, it's the experience baby! Grad school is for being nerdy and researching, undergrad years are the time to live it up, man. And Michigan is definitely the place for that.

You really can't tell GPA from stats. Plus didn't you just contradict yourself? You say undergrad is the time to live it up which is what the op wil NOT do if he is going to be worrying and studying all day to keep up a good GPA to transfer.

Pittsburgh allows you many parties as well and access to all of U.pitt (as well as other college campuses).

Tepper is pretty easy here at CMU (I have a 3.8 so far) and you won't have to worry about your GPA at all.

well.. for stats if it helps.. i got 1910 in SAT 1.. math - 720 verbal - 590 writing - 600. Sat IIs math 2c - 740 and physics - 730.. international bacaalaureate course.. predicted 35/42..

You are obviously a solid student, probably disadvantaged because English is a foreign language to you. Given everything I read, I would say that Tepper is a safer choice, but if you are willing to take the chance, and it is risky, Ross could provide you with more options.

Small point of clarification:

Ross has no plans to start taking freshmen right out of high school. I believe they will continue to do what they already started this year, which is to offer "preferred admit status" to 75-80 high school seniors applying as freshmen. That means they are admitted as LSA students but unlike their classmates do not need to apply to Ross second semester and hope they get in. They're in already (assuming they don't blow it gradewise).

The other change that is happening this year is that Ross is starting to admit sophomores instead of juniors.

I don't think this makes any change as to spaces available.
