UMich audition invitation

I am auditioning in LA for UMich. It said on it "Once again, congratulations on being one of a select number of applicants being invited to audition/interview." How many people are eliminated in this round? Does this round only consider academics?

Depends on what program you’re applying for. Eg. did you send a screening CD? If not, then your invitation will be based on academics plus likely a review of repetoire/achievement/recommendations. Eg. if it were simply academic clearing, the letter they’d sent my son was something along of the lines of "You’ve met academic requirements and are invited to submit your portfolio…and then when cleared, followed by a second letter like yours that said he was “One of a select number invited…”
We do not know how many made it to the audition/interview phase for sure, but we guessed there were at least a yield rate’s worth of surplus based on the number of auditions/interviews dates and times held in his category (eg roughly 3:1 we suspected). In our case, we did know that there were applicants rejected from the portfolio phase but we did not know of any rejections from audition/interview phase (which isn’t to say there weren’t any). Again, that program was unique in that they also required a recording of your playing as well prior to selection for the final round, so the interviews may have been of a more confirming nature.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
