UMich, GT, UCDavis, UWash(Seattle) or UIUC for Computer Engineering

Accepted in all these places. I am an international student. Which one should I choose for Computer Engg?

I think UIUC is rank highest for computer engineering, GT, UIUC, and Michigan are probably all equally regarded for engineering (maybe GT just slightly higher), and Michigan is stronger in most other fields. Don’t bother with UC-Davis or UW. I’d go to whatever was cheapest of GT, UIUC, or UMich.

UIUC, Michigan and GT are usually all ranked between #4 and #8 in Computer Engineering and between #5 and #10 in Engineering overall. You cannot go wrong with any of those three universities. Have you visited those three schools? I would go with fit.

Thanks for your responses as this would help me converge. Visiting the colleges would be the best bet but unfortunately time and money involved does not permit me. It is always good to get view from those who can share with no ulterior motive.
I appreciate.

I had been accept by UCDavis and I replyed, but recently UWashinton also accept me(I was on the waitlist). Now I can’t decide which to go.
I am majoring in biological science. Both UW and UCD have good reputation about bio…
I am planing to go to medical school in graduate…
help me ?

Really? UDub is #7 in computer science. It’s in the backyard of Microsoft. The CS building is named after Paul Allen, and there are many places on campus named after Gates.

GoBlue, the OP is interested in ECE, not CS. I would agree that UIUC, Michigan or GT trump UDub, although one should also take cost and other factors into account. If the OP were interested in CS, I would have recommended UIUC and UDub on par with Michigan.

The OP only mentioned CE (Computer Engineering), not EE or ECE. The OP is foreign and I wonder if he knows that at most of the top programs, CS and CE share virtually the same faculties and facilities.

At UDub, CS and CE are housed in the same department (Computer Science & Engineering). At Michigan, you can take CS from engineering (EECS) or LSA; the difference is only in distribution requirements. At UIUC, CS is housed in engineering.

Thus it depends on whether the OP is more interested in hardware or software. I wouldn’t dismiss UDub so readily especially with its home field advantage.

Good point GoBlue. If the OP is interested in Software, UDub is formidable. For Hardware, the edge would probably go to Michigan, GT UIUC, but UDub is also very strong.

Something else to consider is cost of attendance and quality of life. As far as cost is concerned, Michigan is ~$10k/year ($40k over 4 years) more expensive than the other options mentioned by hoolahoop (other than UC-Davis, which is as expensive as Michigan).

In terms of quality of life, Michigan and UDub both edge out GT. UIUC is somewhere in the middle.

It looks like the TC choose UIUC.

Isn’t cost an issue?

Do you want to live in a major city or a college town?

Do you want four seasons or California weather?

Do you care what the campus looks like?
