UMich Hopeful.

Hey. FYI: I'm a white male who lives in-state. I plan on applying to the school of engineering...

Also, I attend a school that follows the International Baccalaureate program (ibo.org), which has all honors classes equivalent to AP classes. They all have similar tests at the end but are on a differ scoring scale (7 point scale). A five to a seven on these tests qualify you for college credit at U of M.

Academics:
3.73 GPA (unweighted)
24 honors classes (mostly IB)
33 on ACT (English 33, Math 34, Reading 30, Science 33, English/Writing Combined 31)
No SAT

Activities:
4 years soccer-1 year freshman, 1 year jv, 2 years varsity (total 13 years with club)
1 year basketball-freshman level
20 hours comm service (50 by end of senior year)
4 years band

Miscellaneous:
certified aquanaut (like astronaut but underwater)
To be qualified you must have lived underwater (more than 30 feet) for 24 hours
thesis paper on water quality
several engineering classes taken through hospitals and universities
two positive letters of recommendation (one teacher and one counselor)

oh, and i’m thinking of applying to an ivy league, but i’m not sure if my gpa is high enough…
thoughts??
… please…

wattlekins, im applying to um too but out of state chance me dude http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/964841-chance-me-ill-chance-back-ill-online-all-night.html</a>! i dont think youll have a problem getting in to umich. im a legacy there but not sure how much weighting they give to that do you know? a cool ivy that you might qualify for is brown also look at cornell

Hey wattlekins…academically you’re looking good. Your ACT is in U of M’s range, and though you’re GPA is lower, challenging classes can make up for that. I will say that your ECs are kind of weak, so see if you can get any leadership position your senior year. I must say however, I’ve never heard of an aquanaut, and congrats on being one. Overall I think you have a really good chance of getting in especially being in state. Have you considered applying ED?

Ivys wise, it will be tough, seeing as the Ivys are reaches for even the top applicants. Maybe try Cornell’s School of Engineering?

If you can chance me back:

And the school i go to is ranked second by US News and World Report
