UMich, IUB, Miami - Chance me please! International applicant.

Hey everyone!

I am an international applicant, aiming for a business major. Could you please chance me for **IU Bloomington/B, **UMich/B and **Miami University/B?

I am a 20 years old, male student from Central/Eastern Europe.

ACADEMICS
GPA: 4,7 on a 5-point scale, if I'm correct, this equals 3,75 on a 4-point scale.
Most of my grades are As and Bs, I have 1 C, Biology in my Junior year.

Class Rank: top 10%, class size about 140*
During my high school studies, I have placed in the top 10 in national competitions in English, Math and Literature, and have been in the finals of a Physics and an IT competition.*

My secondary school graduation exams are:
Math 95%, Literature 86%, History 88%, IT 98%, English 100%
I have also received honorary distinctions in Math, English and IT.*

Test Scores:
SAT: 2280 (800 Math, 760 CR, 720 WR) - single sitting
SAT II: 800 Math Lvl2, 770 Physics, 750 Literature
TOEFL (ibt): 119/120

I have graduated from high school in 2009, and have spent the last 1,5 years gathering work experience by helping out at my parents' company. During that time, I was also attending lectures at the country's best-renowned business school.

OTHER ECS:
**
- Varsity Basketball** - on the school team for 4 years, 2 state championships*
- Volunteer work - I have done some volunteering in the last couple of summers (at a local home for the elderly)
- Work Experience - I was the editor of a small culture column/section in the country's leading PC Magazine
- Work/Academics - I have been tutoring other students for years (in math & physics)
- Journalism - I have been writing reviews and essays on films and music for one of the most established cultural blogs of the country*
- Clubs - member of the school debate club*
- Music - have been playing the piano for 14 years now, performed at school events, won a prize at a national talent competition*

*My biggest concern is how these above factors will be valued by admissions officers, as a state championship or a place at a national competition in the US and in a small European country might be viewed as achievements on a whole different level. What do you think?

*Senior Year Courses: *
This aspect is very different because of the local education system. Here, we don't have real differentiation between semesters, our schedule changes only at the end of whole school years (or rather, at the beginning of new ones). Moreover, we have very limited choice in the courses we take, most of it is mapped out by the government in the form of a standardized course list. We do, however, have the option to take on 2, max 3 elective courses, and we can also choose to take our core courses at an "advanced" level, which means a highly increased workload.

That said, my senior year schedule included 13 subjects in both semesters, with 5 Advanced-level courses: English (48 classes/semester), IT (48 c/s), Physics (32 c/s), History (64 c/s) and Mathematics (96 c/s). During the year, I've had 31,5 hours of class per week.

I have maintained very good working relations with my counselor / teachers, so I'm hoping for very enthusiastic recommendations from them.

I think it is hard to gauge the quality of one's own essays, however, I think I have enough writing experience to say that my essays are solid, if not great. I think it would be best if you counted them with a neutral effect, and gave your predictions based on the rest of the information.

Thank you very much in advance!

Michigan’s Ross Business School is VERY difficult to get into undergrad, so i think for an international applicant that would be a pretty big reach for you. however, miami and indiana are more reasonable options. i like your chances at those

well I don’t know about that particular college but from what I know of UMich overall I think you should be able to get in … your academics are quite strong

rest 2 are safeties

@ngeeze1: Do you mean the degree of difficulty for admissions to Michigan in general or just for Ross’s priority admission for freshman? What do you think of my chances outside of Ross? Thanks!

i was referring to Ross specifically. it is tough to go right into the business school as an undergraduate. if you apply to LSA instead and go for Ross as a grad student, i think you will have no problem getting into michigan. best of luck!
