Umich-Junior year high school

Hi,

I have heard that colleges tend to focus on grades for junior year. I had a 3.87 GPA in my first two years of high school but i messed up my first semester of junior year( i got a 3.67). How much will this effect my application to Umich in my senior year. I definitely plan to step it up 2nd semester(hoping for a 3.9+).

Additionally, my school has a GPA scale that differs from other high schools near me. For example, an A- is not a 4.0 while at other schools it is. Does Umich(and other colleges) take this into account; for example, do they reweight GPA's?

Thanks!

As long as you bring your average back up during the second semester you should be fine. I was recently accepted with an overall gpa around 3.5-3.6, so as long as your test scores and essays are in line you should be fine.

To the best of my knowledge Michigan does in fact recalculate GPA so don’t worry about your schools weird system.

Cheers :)
