UMich or NYU for econ transfer?

Hey, guys. I got accepted in UMich LSA econ as a Chinese transfer student. And I just can't wait to hear from NYU CAS econ for a longer time and I wanna make a decision in advance.

I know they are tied in econ department and either way if I work hard, it will turn out pretty well. But I notice many Chinese students got accepted into UMich LSA econ as transfers this year (perhaps as usual) and I will have to compete with all of them and also other econ students after graduation. And I won't work or intern in Michigan, so still, full of competition. I know the alumni network in umich is excellent but I think it will be less helpful if the internship or job is not near the school.

As for NYU, Umich might have an edge over NYU in alumni network, prestige, rankings, etc. But jobs and interns are just outside the door(in NYC), with that advantage, I think perhaps it will be easy for me to get interns and even future job through some friends I know. And if so, the prestige, rankings, faculty won't even make me better off, at all. Because I think connections are a crucial element for a student who major in B-school or econ.

What's more, do you guys know how most international econ student (even Ross student) do interns(for those who don't do intern back in hometown on their summer or winter vacations)? Do they have to spend the summer or winter vacations in America and find an intern and a place to live in other cities like NYC and Chicago ? You know, Michigan is not a desirable place to intern for students longing for top-tier firms.

What do you think guys, in an objective way(discard the fact that u r from UMich)? THX.

Once again it sounds like Michigan is not for you. You constantly dwell on your perceived negatives about attending U-M, so I feel that going elsewhere will be to your advantage. I sincerely hope you get into NYU.

Rjk, thank u for ur answer. But that’s… that’s a little personal. CC’s a forum, right? It’s about frank discussion. All my points above are welcomed to be attacked as long as it’s reasonable. Besides, how many negatives did I mention above? Location and connections? I doubt there’s more. And I also pointed that Mich has better alumni, faculty, prestige, rankings, didn’t I? That’s like 4:2 if there was a Pros-and-cons list. I’m here just to be open to opinions and I did not show much preference above, at least not that I want.
