A friend of mine got into both UMich and UIUC (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), and was looking for some advice into picking which one would be a better place for him to go.

He's an international student (Taiwanese), wants to study electrical engineering, and is planning to get at least a masters degree after college. Both schools rank about equal for him in terms of environment. Any ideas for which college would be best match?

I answered your question on the general forum. In short, unless your friend has personal reasons to prefer Illinois, I recommend Michigan. They are pretty much equal in Engineering but Michigan is better in most other aspects.

MICHIGAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is NO comparison. I may not be UM's biggest fan, but this place is heaven compared to the rat-hole that is Champana. I'm and Illinois resident, and UIUC wasn't even a possiblity for me. I strongly recommend UM over UIUC.

I chose to pay about 3 times as much money to attend Michigan as I would have at UIUC. To me, Michigan is far more than 3 times better. In engineering, they are about equal, but is far more fun and social, in a better college town, has better sports, and has better programs in just about everything than UIUC. There really is no comparison outside the engineering classroom.

Dude, i went on like a 3-month hiatus at the beginning of the school year cuz CC like suspended my account and since i've resumed, im gettin tons of posts in. Is this where the male competitive drive kicks in, kb?

i wonder what an honors vs. RC battle would look like. You guys take away our World of Warcraft and we take away your weed, and we're both powerless. The question is, who can do it faster? sprints away in search of pot-sniffing master dog
