To OP,

I am originally from Virginia, both are great schools but UMich has the edge in terms of location. You will know what I mean if you ever get a chance to visit. Ann Arbor is awesome! My finance was a graduate of UVA and she tell you that she hated it. She said that Ann Arbor embarrasses C-Ville on all terms. The biggest attraction at UVA is “the corner” which is literally a corner of the city where the shops and restaurants are located. Ann Arbor has much more to offer and has better restaurants.

Academically you can’t go wrong with either schools; however, like most have said, U-M is strong in EVERY department. UVA has an overall good rep, but comes up short in many departments.

The student body is more diverse and generally more accepting here than UVA. We always have rallies/protests in the Diag and there much more going on here. UVA is a more conservative school, with many students coming from the uppity Northern Virginia region.

Lastly, weather…UVA has nicer weather in the winter. It doesn’t get as much snow and doesn’t last as long as Michigan, but I would argue that spring/summer is better here due to the lower levels of humidity.

Overall, it comes down to personal preference. Either way, why not visit both schools and decide then. As a side note, my finance wanted to transfer to U-M after visiting but she was a senior by the time she visited. If you asked her she would tell you UM will give you a much richer experience than UVA.

I know both schools very well, so feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
-Good luck!
