UMich Ross/Honors vs Wash Olin??

I got into UMich Ross as a preferred admit and I also got into UMich Honors program. However, I am intimidated by UMich's huge size. I have not visited the campus, but I am worried most about this size. Would being in Ross make it smaller and more of a community?

I also got into WUSTL's Olin school of business. While Olin is not nearly as good Ross, it's ranked 15 as opposed to Ross which is ranked top 5, I visited WUSTL and liked it. It did not seem a perfect fit, but it was likable, and the school that I liked most (or to put it more accurately, disliked the least).

What do you guys think I should do? UMich Ross seems like a wonderful opportunity. How much does your undergrad business school matter?

Sorry I posted this a few days earlier but got no replies

I suggest to visit Michigan. It's that simple. Decide for yourself after you see the campus. Wait until you see the new B-school building that will be opening soon. That would be the deciding factor for me.

You should definitely visit. This is a huge decision and fit matters a great deal. I am pretty confident you will like Ann Arbor and find the campus manageable, but you won't know for sure until you visit.

Also, remember that the new Ross building will be completed by the end of your first year at Michigan and it is going to be wicked!

^ Bah! Looks like a 1960s hospital. :p

Perhaps, but a $150 million 60s hospital! hehe!

But i can't visit! I have two days left to decide. What should I do?

Is money a factor? What are the cost differences? This is important if you are thinking about an MBA program later. Right now, I say Michigan because Ann Arbor is a great town and you get a full college experience (sporting events, great campus visitors, alumni) OH and since you are going into business, there are about 5 billion Michigan alums out there. Ok well maybe just a billion, but more alum than any other school in the world.

Money is a factor, but I am out of state for Michigan so it will cost about 40,000 while WashU will be 47,000.

I would like to have the option of going to MBA, but my dad said it is possible to do MBA for free if you do work/study or research or be a TA at the same time. Is this right?

That is right, but it is tough to get funding for MBA programs. It is like law and med school they expect you to make money later so free money is not as available. I say U Mich for sure then 28K is a good amount of money extra over 4 yrs

What about the issue of it being a big school? Do you know anything about that? I am afraid about getting lost. I am not really shy, but I am not extremely outgoing. Is it easy to find your place in such a big school?

ccer, you won't get lost at Michigan, you'll just have to get a larger map and a compas! hehe!

And MBA degrees seldom come free. In fact, they are usually very expensive. Most people who get a free ride generally get it from their employer, and if that's the case, they must remain with the organization gfor several years after the completion of the MBA.
