UMICH SCHEDULE

Hello all,

I’m beginning my first year of college at the University of Michigan, but I am still quite unsure of what classes to take. I have interests in multiple fields including engineering, medicine, and computer science, but am really in a pinch on figuring out which field I would like to pursue. In order to fulfill some of the prerequisites to have the option of transferring to the CoE, if need be, I decided on these classes for my first semester (I chose EECS 183 mainly to try and introduce myself to computer science and for the engineering requirement):

  • Math 215
  • Chem 130/125(?)/126(?)
  • English 125
  • EECS 183
  • UROP

Would this schedule be difficult?

It’s going to to depend on the type of student that you are.

Three STEM classes, Chem, EECS and MV Calc is a lot for a 1st semester freshman. And writing and UROP will take time too.

That first semester freshman year is a tough transition, so I’d recommend a lighter course load than heavier one.

Weren’t you accepted into a specific school/major, with advisors and a defined plan of study?

In LSA (or CoE), you don’t declare a major until 2nd semester Sophomore year. Freshman meet with advisors during orientation.
