Essay #1 (Required for all applicants. Approximately 250 words.)

Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups defined by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it.

Essay #2 (Required for all applicants. 500 words maximum.)

Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the specific undergraduate College or School (including preferred admission and dual degree programs) to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?

Are these the supplements for people applying for entry in Fall of 2013?

Question 1 was definitely one of the supplements questions for the Fall of 2012. Not sure about Question 2. If you go to the Common App, when the 2013 one is ready, you can find them.

These are the supplemental essays for 2012 so they will probably not be for 2013. The second one is usually the same every year (has been for a couple years now) but the first question changes. I would wait until August when the application and supplemental essays are released.

Probably not for a long time? It’s a pretty general essay topic that can give them a lot of insight on a student. Michigan’s not like UChicago who likes to use your not so common topics to try and receive a creative essay. If you’re a creative writer though, you can make any bland essay topic into a great essay.
