UMich Undergrad Program Rankings

Hi!
I'm an incoming Freshman to the University of Ann Arbor.
To help me decide on a major, I would like to find the rankings of UMich's many undergraduate majors, especially:

Chemistry
BioChemistry
Biology
Psychology
NeuroScience
BioMedical Engineering
Chemical Engineering
Anthropology

It would be very helpful in my search for a major (or two) if I had the national or world rankings of each of these departments (or majors) at the University of Michigan.

Any help is appreciated.

It is very difficult to rank undergraduate departments or programs. Michigan is arguably numero uno (in the nation) in Anthropology and Psychology. Those two departments are AMAZING.

Michigan's college of Engineering is definitely one of the top 10 in the nation, so Biomedical and Chemical Engineering are obviously excellent.

Biochem and Neurosciences are also very highly regarded.

Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics are all stellar and given the size of each graduating class, the resources availlable to undergrads in those departments are amazing.

Biology gets mixed reviews. It is obviously ranked very high, but many complain that is is too large and decentralized.

Michigan's over all engineering program is ranked 6th or 5th I believe. When you consider the vast resource of the U of M medical system, biochemistry, psychology, neuroscience, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering should be in the top, may be in top 10.

I don't think rankings of fields are the best way to decide what you'll major in. Take the courses and see what you like. Also, you're already an incoming student right? Are you in engineering or LSA? You listed majors from both.

I agree with Redhare. Besides, I don't think there is a single weak department or program at Michigan. Last I checked, every single department in the colleges of LSA and Engineering are ranked in or around the top 10 in the nation. Michigan's lowest ranked department is Chemistry, which is ranked #16 in the nation (tied with Penn, Princeton and Yale). And the Chemistry department at Michigan is known for having a LACish feel. Small classes and very involved faculty.

In short, you cannot go wrong with Michigan, regardless of major.

Thanks Guys!

Redhare, currently I am unsure about a major, and all of the above are at the top of my list. I am not going to determine my major by just picking the highest ranked program, but knowing the program rankings is still useful to me.

If, for example, BioChemistry was ranked at 100th in the nation, and Chemistry was ranked at 7th, then I would pick Chem over BioChem. Such a switch would not be depriving me of what I like, because at the moment, I'm intent on picking one of the above for a major.

Am I in engineering? No. I asked about those engineering fields because they interest me, but I highly doubt that I'll do either seeing that I'd have to do a school switch which is highly unprecidented.

Thanks all.
