Cornell would be 6-7 K more becuz I am out of state for both. I love both campuses and both schools....is Cornell worth the extra money? I used to be between Berkeley vs. Cornell but i recently ruled Berkeley out because I realized the environment just wasnt for me (i didnt fit in too well with the kids) ...however, i was interviewed for an alumni scholarship for berkeley at UMich..and visiting Ann Arbor made me realize how much I'd overlooked UMich..my parents would rather me go to UMich (especially since I got into the LSA Honors program)....I've heard they are pretty equal for premed...what do you guys think? I'm extremely confused and don't know where to go!

Cornell is better for premed. Acceptance rates will prove it. High caliber kids. I wouldn't pay out of state tuition for any public school.

thanks for the advice...i'm still really scared of the premed at cornell though....i read on a cc post before that the average successful premed student has to study 45 hours a week! and i am one of those kids who worked my butt off in high school...yeah i've got some natural ability...but i have always studied...I'm afriad I wont be able to handle the load at cornell and will fail lol....how are cornell GPAs and grades for premed? I have heard UMich is a little nicer in terms of grades to its honors program kids...

That's the info for Cornell applicants. Acceptance rate to med school for 3.4+ GPA's is typically close to 90%. Acceptance rate is around 80% overall. Michigan probably has an overall acceptance rate in the high 50's-low 60's.

Cornell also prepares well for the MCAT. Notice that, last year, roughly 1/4-1/3 of Cornell applicants w/ 3.6+ ERA's had 35+ MCAT scores. Nationwide, only 5% get 35+.

Sorry, I meant GPA, not ERA :) Been following too much baseball.

wow...thats pretty impressive especially becuz i've heard there is a correlation between the MCATS and SATS..and I sucked at the SAT's so i'll need all the help I can get...those rates are really solid...is a 3.4 impossible to achieve premed at cornell? and how competitive are students?

oh i've also heard some schools have a screening process to boost their acceptance rate levels...meaning they wont allow some student with low GPAs and MCATS to apply to med school...this makes their acceptance rates falsely high...does Cornell screen its students looking to apply to med school?

Absolutely not. I'm currently a junior and have attended all of the HCEC orientations so I know quite a bit about the process and the HCEC (which is the comittee that writes your recommendation later). As long as you have the $190, they will interview you and write you a letter.

3.4 is more than achievable at Cornell. Roughly 75% of last year's applicants had 3.4+ GPA's.

do you know on average how many hours premed student put into their coursework? also..the AVERAGE premed student at cornell is likely to be a little bit more intelligent than the average one at UMich...which leads me to believe i'd be on the better end of the curve at UMich than Cornell...what do u think?I really like cornell..im just super scared I wont be able to survive the work load
