Hey guys.

I'm attempting to make my decision between Cornell and UMich for biomedical Engineering. There are obvious advantages for both. Cornell is an Ivy, which is a huge deal, they have a great reputation. But I love Ann Arbor, and UMich ranks higher for Biomedical engineering.

I'm visiting Ithaca this weekend and I've already been to Ann Arbor a few times (I live in Michigan), but as far as I can tell I'll like both.

I also currently have a full ride to UMich, but I haven't heard back from Cornell yet on financial aid.

What do you all think?

Go for UMICH if you are absolutely certain about bme and you love memorizing bio. cornell only has a Bio eng program with BME minor, very similar, just not official BME major. BUT if you have doubts on your plan and might end up switching majors like the majority of college students go for Cornell.

I graduated from Cornell bioengineering…and I always thought it was strange that we didn’t have a designated BME major, but that shouldn’t deter you from the program.

You can take pretty much all BME classes to satisfy the bioengineering requirements. But you also have the option of taking classes outside of BME to count towards your major. You can also take classes cross-listed in chemical engineering, which were all excellent as well.

Tough to say about the financial difference…Cornell was great to me in terms of financial aid, so maybe they will be comparable. But I also don’t have anything bad to say about Michigan… also a great school! congrats on having so many great options!

BME is only a minor at Cornell, I’m not sure about the research opportunities but it hasn’t expanded enough to become a full department yet

I just got my financial aid back from Cornell, they gave me a full ride…Gosh I’m so indecisive. Cornell has a really good program for minoring in BME and then moving on to get a M.Eng, but I don’t know, because UMich has a program to get a major in BME.
