I also posted this on Emory board, but I wanted to hear/compare both sides' perspectives.

I'm torn between Emory and Michigan, and was wondering which one would set me on the right track to med school.
Can anyone tell me about each school's premed track?

Thank you.

Either school will prepare you just fine for medical school. The ‘premed track’ is just a bunch of courses you need to take to get into medical school and there will be no significant difference between the two schools in that regard.

The truth of the matter is that where you did your undergraduate work is mostly unimportant in medical school admissions (unless you are aiming for the very top schools, like hopkins, harvard, stanford, which are comprised largely of students from top undergraduate schools). The two main factors that will dictate whether you get in are GPA and MCAT, so go where you will be happy and can excel.

As you can see, Michigan does just fine. And so does Emory.

As CCRunner said, there won’t be much difference in the pre-med courses between the two schools, and both will prepare you well for med school.

Michigan and Emory are quite different in terms of atmosphere, though. You should probably go to the school that you think you’ll be happier at and is a better fit for you.

I was deciding between these two schools too last year, so if you want further insight, send me a PM :)
