I know these 3 colleges are overdiscussed in Engineering and majority may agree that in Engineering they are comparable. So I wish to ask what about pure and applied mathematics programs in these colleges, academically where is a better place for learning math?

[NRC Rankings in Mathematics](http://www.stat.tamu.edu/~jnewton/nrc_rankings/area31.html)

1) Michigan
2) Illinois
3) Tech

I’d say go with what fits. All are good schools.

Math? Michigan is in the top 10 in the country. Illinois is a strong second. Georgia Tech . . . well, Georgia Tech is a very good engineering school, right there with Michigan and UIUC. But for straight math, go with Michigan.

News flash: the data in NRC rankings are 15 years old. Anyway, Michigan probably has the best math program, but Tech has a few bright spots if you’re interested in math with applications to engineering or CS (e.g. graphs, combinatorics, etc)
