Hi!
I know that there are a hundred posts like this, but I really have no idea which school to choose, and since I am an international student, I cannot visit and the only thing I can refer to are college forums.
I want to study business, but not strictly finance-related stuff, but marketing/ management/ business administration. The five top schools I have been accepted to are:
UMICH (LSA, but still havent heard about Ross pre-admit)
Georgetown McDonough
NYU Stern
Emory and Oxford (with Oxford giving 15k for tuition) (goizueta after freshman year)
UVA (after 2 years I would have to apply to mcintire)
Still waiting for Brown and UPenn. Obviously if I get into any of these, I would choose either one, but in all honesty I think it is highly unlikely.
Anyway, the question is which school do you think is best? Assuming I don’t get into Ross and assuming I do get into Ross?
Overall, academics are the most important factor for me, but I am a very social person as well, and care a lot about the whole college experience/ social scene. I prefer urban areas, but I feel NYU is too spread out and kind of overwhelming, especially for an international student. But I heard it is great with marketing, and of course NYC is bustling with possibilities.
Money is not an issue, but obviously the 15k would not hurt. But is Oxford any good, and is it possible to go to Goizueta afterwards?
Thanks!
Yes, but you have to apply for admission to the b-school at Emory, Oxford, and UVa, which is no guarantee.
So for me, if I am deadset on business, the choice would be between Stern and McDonough (and UMich if you get pre-admit to Ross). Then it just comes down to fit.
Big city or college town (if Ross pre-admit)?
NYC and DC are quite different as well. Tell me what big cities you have experience with and I’ll try to describe.
Thank you @PurpleTitan!
Well, I’ve been to NYC a while back, but for little over a week. The city made a great impression on me, of course, but I heard that the NYU campus is really spread out, and there is hardly any sense of community. Not exactly what I’m looking for. However, when it comes strictly to academics & internships, which of the three business schools, Stern, McDonough or Ross would be best?
The on-campus recruiting opportunities will be about the same, which is why I say it should come down to fit. Obviously, at NYU, you can go explore opportunities by yourself much more easily. NYC would have a lot more opportunities (and a lot more competition).
Looking for work as a foreign student in the US may be difficult, however.
Go to NYU Stern - city gives you a ton of great opportunities you won’t necessarily get at the other schools
The fact that NYU is in a large city and a little spread out is a convenient way to make the argument that there is no community, but the reality you’ll find community within your freshman year dorms and within all of the available clubs / organizations there is join at both Stern and NYU
