UMich Worth It

Odd thread, not sure where to put it. Title is a bit misleading, I like the university. :)

I've recently been accepted into the University of Michigan In-State as a transfer applicant. As this was a match school I had a decent shot of getting into, one of the things I did early on is apply to their community college summer research fellowship (as well as another tutoring job on campus, which I'm still waiting to hear back on), which I've been accepted into today. As a pre-med who is also considering research route, this opens about 50 billion doors at a university well known for its research.

The deadline for saying "yes" to this program is in two days. Presumably, I'd have to pay my enrollment deposit, which isn't an issue, but I'd hate to bail when someone on the waitlist could easily take my spot if I said no in the first place.

Thing is, I haven't heard back from any of my high matches and reaches (Oberlin, Vandy, UPenn, Emory) yet. While I truly like Michigan, I'm concerned about large classes, namely taking orgo/bchem in a large lecture hall, as well as dog-eat-dog pre-med competition I feel I wouldn't find at a smaller school. Also, dat Ann Arbor weather. If it matters, I feel I stand a reasonable chance at all of those schools, 'cept for UPenn. Money isn't an issue.

Where should I go from here?

Send in your deposit to Michigan. Don’t worry if you decide not to attend. There will be over 14,000 students on the wait list who will be delighted to take your spot if you go elsewhere.

If you like Michigan, go there since it will likely cost a lot less and is at least as good as any of the other schools on your list. Money may not be an issue, but if you are intent on going to Medical school, saving tens of thousands of dollars now won’t hurt.
