UMichigan Ann Arbor EA Class of 2021 Applicants

Jk. Don’t listen to chances. They are rarely accurate.

@ilikethat what major? Your stats are awesome though! I’m sure you have a great chance of acceptance, but I agree with @DryMango in saying not to listen to chances on here. They’ll probably just stress you out and we have no clue how the AOs will decide… But we’ll all find out soon enough since they are released (presumably) next Friday!

@c011e9e next Friday? really?

@allima Friday December 16th is the projected release date. That has not been confirmed by UofM, however, based on the patterns of previous years that is the predicted day.

@c011e9e oh cool! I thought it was rolling though? Does it start the 16th and end the 24th?

From my understanding from previous years (anyone, feel free to correct me if I’m wrong) they will typically come out on the same day around 3-4pm.

I don’t want to fan the fire or anything, but how weird would it be if some of the UMich decisions came out tomorrow? That is a scary thought. But I would guess T minus 8 days!
There is actually a pattern to how they release notification because I remember that my brother’s year (he got in and is now a senior there) in 2013, it was reverse alphabetically for the last name on the releases. His friend with a “Y” last name got it first and they release it soon enough when my brother was in the middle and his other friend with an “A” last name found out late. I highly doubt that the trend was a coincidence because the entire school found out in that nerve racking pseudo-order.

@allima, yup that is what the vast majority are guessing. UMich has however confirmed (I couldn’t find where for the link) that all the EA applicants will have their decision given by the 23rd. Hopefully, if I have to wait that late, I get some good news.

@educationfan Very little merit aid. There are a few highly competitive merit scholarships. But most OOS get nothing. Plus, tuition goes up about $1600/semester when you become upper division, which if you come in with lots of AP credits can happen beginning of sophomore year. And, my sophomore’s tuition also went up $1300/semester when he declared Comp Sci as a major within LSA. But the department gave him a T-shirt he really loves. So that’s something. We call it his $1300 T-shirt. But here is the good news: Michigan is so generous with AP credits that he is graduating two semesters early, so for us as California residents it becomes almost as affordable as a UC that will take you 4-5 years to get through.

@Googlestoomuch Thank you so much for the insight! My son will graduate HS with 16 APs, and even though we don’t want him to rush through college, getting credits for his AP courses will help. Sometimes paying per credit hour vs fixed semester tuition rate might make financial sense as well. I guess we’ll evaluate all options once we cross this bridge.

My guidance counselor called me in to her office today and told me that UMich called her and said decisions will be “later than expected”…

@lourveamerican ¯_(ツ)_/¯

@lourveamerican are you instate/feeder school? I wonder why they would call a GC to tell them… They already stated that decisions will be released by the 24th, and that’s a deadline they’ll meet, so I wonder why they would call and say that since we are the ones suspecting the 16th, but not anything that they’ve said

@c011e9e Nope. I’m from New England. This happened to me with another college, decision dates were moved back and I found out when notified by my GC.

@lourveamerican got it, good to know. Thanks for the update!

No way…that’s not true…don’t believe it…why your school? Especially NE, doesn’t make sense. There are so many schools. I think your GC is trying to make you feel better. I’m going with what the history says. They will be out before Christmas on-time.

The website hasn’t changed so I am going with UMich!
Go Blue!
We are ready!
Everything else is speculation…hang in there we will know soon enough!

I love U of M (top choice), but I’m really worried about getting in AND I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL DEC 16 AHHHH. This is basically what my EA app to LSA looked like

In-state, GPA - 4.17 weighted 3.92 unweighted, Rank- 12/585 (public school), ACT 30
10 APs- World (4), Calc BC (4), Chem (3), Lang (5), Psych (4), Bio, Comp Sci, Stats, Macro, Lit. if it means anything, I took 3 years of Latin (max offered)
ECs- Ethnic Youth Group (9-12), Youth Group Choir (12), Concert/Marching Band (9-12) - Section Leader (11-12), Pep Band (10-12), Cross Country (11-12) - Varsity Letter (12), Graphic Design Club (11-12) - Lead Member (12) - started website and online platform. I did several designs for the community that are printed

I got a great rec from my XC coach (9/10), asked my band teacher and calc teacher (didn’t get to read, but im guessing 6-7/10 ish) for recs too.
I thiiiiink my essays were decent. I mostly wrote on my Vietnamese community experience and some graphic design instead of my XC and band bc I was hoping my rec letters had enough info on those.

I’m thinking I’m gonna get deferred (mostly because of my ACT score and snowball recs), but I’m hoping I have a decent chance because I’m in-state. Input would be greatly appreciated

hey @jajajalol…you have a great resume! I know we are all freaking out. It’s tough and we will be better for it. You can and you will wait, just like me and thousands of others.

You’ll be fine either way.

Just keep doing what your doing! I know I have a BC Calc test tomorrow and I should be studying but I check on here to see what’s going on!

I know…Mich is awesome. I’m hoping they see in me what I see in them…but hey if not someone will and I will move on and up! I just hope it’s blue and in Ann Arbor and has a crazy Wolverine as a mascot! =))

Any chance decisions get released tomorrow?

@Seacoast Awww thank you :slight_smile: That really helps!!!
Good luck!! I have some tests tmrw too, but in CS and Bio >;(( I’m sure you’ll do great!! and yes so true hahha
