Hi, I was just wondering what my chances would be for UMich. I am probably going to be majoring in Political Science and I currently go to a fairly competitive suburban Chicago school.

Stats:
Unweighted GPA: 3.4
Weighted GPA: 3.8
ACT: 31
Class Rank: Top 15%
The AP Classes/Tests that I have taken are US History (4), US Government, Macroeconomics, Latin Literature, English Language, Human Geography, and I will be taking Calculus AB and Chemistry next year.
My main EC's are Varsity Basketball and Mathletes. I am also in a couple other honorary societies. Thanks.

You really need to bring that gpa up. At least a 3.6 to have a chance.

Gpa is too low, even with a (relatively) high class rank.
I would say reach.
Slight reach if you can bring up the gpa a little and see if you can get a 33+ on your ACT…

i’m applying for undergraduate admission later on this year, for the class of 2014, and i’m wondering what my chances are.
international student
SAT: 2170
class rank: pretty high, in an extremely competitive class/school
EC: active from year nine to eleven but not so much in year twelve
probably going to get pretty good recommendations.

whitesox24 - michigan is probably a reach right now for you. they might take into account the competitiveness of your HS though. with really good essays you could probably get in. are you planning to take the ACT again? if you bring up your score that could help your chances, too(not that a 31 is a bad score–it’s great! but if you get a 32 or a 33 that might be the extra push you need).

and definitely apply early! the earlier the better.

Thanks for all of the responses. I do plan to take the ACT again, but I don’t think I can get my GPA up that much by the time I apply. Anyone else?
