So yeah... I got accepted to University of Michigan and the University of Maryland (University honors program). I applied to University of Michigan honors, but I haven't heard back yet. Assuming I get rejected, which one would be better academically?

Maryland has also offered me a $5,000 a year scholarship. Even if I do get into Michigan honors, would it be worth the extra $15,000 a year in tuition?

Any other comparisons or advice about the two would be welcome.

Muchas gracias

Michigan definitely has a better rep than Maryland does, even if you don’t do honors. But in terms of location, Maryland would probably be better than Michigan since it’s on the east coast instead of in middle America, and it has more of a big city environment.

It also depends on the major(s) you’re pursuing, so you might have to do some research on that stuff.

If your parents have no difficulty in paying the difference, and they are happy to do so because they know that you will be happy, then Michigan would be OK.

If you would have to cover the difference with more loans for you and/or your parents, then Maryland would be a better choice. There are many things that you and/or your parents could do with the $60,000 (or more) that you would save by choosing Maryland.

Have you ever been to College Park? Have you ever been to Ann Arbor?
