UMichigan vs. UC-Berkeley?

I will either attend one of these two schools, but I really am not sure which. Money isn't that big of a factor, but Berkeley did give me a little more. I applied to Letters & Science at both, but I want to transfer into engineering (I was unsure when I applied).

UMich
Pros/Cons: Closer to home, easier to transfer into engineering, amazing sports scene, party scene is a little to Greek for me, lesser known that UCB, extremely cold

UCB
Pros/Cons: harder to transfer into engineering, lesser sports scene, great reputation, great weather, San-Francisco area

I am mostly worried that if I went to Berkeley, I would not be able to transfer into engineering (the major I want to do is also impacted) or that the workload would be simply unreasonably difficult.

Thoughts?

(P.S. I am planning to visit both)

Which engineering major?

Net price at each?

I should note that assuming you maintain a 3.2 GPA overall (which is very manageable), you should be able to transfer into the CoE at Michigan without any trouble. It is an automatic transfer. Once you have visited, things will be much clearer.

Berkeley is a bit better in engineering, and is a bit more regarded and known as an institution.

I would make your decision based on which you think is a better fit for you.

Michigan: Liberal. Greek. Ann Arbor. Artsy
Berkeley: Even more liberal. Quirky. Telegraph street. San Francisco.
