I couldn't really find a post for the Class of 2018's waitlisted applicants and I had a couple questions about it.....
Are people still being accepted off the waitlist right now? (Anybody know anyone who has been accepted off the waitlist this year?)
And on UM's tumblr, they said they only accept people based on space available for the different colleges.... so does anyone know if there is space for CoE applicants? :s I've heard that CoE is extremely competitive at UMichigan, so I feel like space in the college of engineering would fill up quickly.....

As the yield rate is higher than expected that thare over 6700 committed students already, it is not likely to accept any from the wait list this year.

Where did you hear about the yield rate? On UMichigan’s official tumblr, they said they haven’t released any numbers for this year’s admission rates and they also said that most waitlist decisions are coming out in June… There was also one girl on their tumblr who got accepted off the waitlist… So I’m confused as to how you came to the conclusion that UM isn’t going to accept any off the waitlist.

Where have you been? It has been posted on local newspaper and here about a week ago. I have only heard someone off the wait list for music school which is a.bit different situation.

Well you’re not exactly providing any concrete facts/information about what you’re saying… If you have a link or anything, I’d be happy to see it, but right now I’m trusting this: http://umichadmissions.■■■■■■■■■■/ more than what you say, mostly because that tumblr is run by official UM staff

Or you are just too lazy to go back one page in this forum, I have already told you it was posted here last week:

<a href=“U-M freshman applications set another all-time record | University of Michigan News”>U-M freshman applications set another all-time record | University of Michigan News;

“Enrollment deposits do not directly correspond to final fall enrollment, because some students’ plans change over the summer. These are preliminary numbers; final enrollment figures will be available in October.”
And, again, what you’re concluding is still contradictory to everything that is posted on UM’s official tumblr, so you haven’t exactly proven me wrong yet.

snuffles, Michigan cannot extend many (if any) offers to waitlisted students considering the number of admitted students that have paid enrolment deposits, and they will not know for sure how many will actually enrol until mid September. As it stands, most years, Michigan does not admit many students from the waitlist (never more than 3% or 4%, with the exception of 2006). In years when over 6,700 pay enrolment deposits, odds are they University will not admit waitlisted students at all. At any rate, Michigan publishes waitlist stats:

2004: 4,836 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 1,537 accepted spots on the waitlist, 5 were admitted
2005: 6,489 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 1,863 accepted spots on the waitlist, 0 were admitted
2006: 8,385 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 2,776 accepted spots on the waitlist, 525 were admitted
2007: 5,662 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 2,067 accepted a spot on the waitlist, 0 were admitted
2008: No data
2009: 8,926 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 2,400 accepted spots on the waitlist, 100 were admitted
2010: 9,407 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 3,724 accepted a spot on the wait list, 79 were admitted
2011: 14,659 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 4,498 accepted a sport on the waitlist, 42 were admitted
2012: 13,615 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 4,010 accepted a spot on the waitlist, 79 were admitted
2013: 10,709 were offered a spot on the waitlist, 3,523 accepted a spot on the waitlist, 89 were admitted

It is prudent not to trust to hope when it comes to the waitlist. 2006 was an exception. Most other years, Michigan admits between 0% and 4% of waitlisted students.

What Bill and Alexandre are saying is based on the data provided by the university, the same data available to the Tumblr staff.

I think you should post your question to the Tumblr. They are very good about answering questions ( and using hilarious gifs to do so), so perhaps it would be better for you to pose your question there since you respect that as an authority.

Best of luck to you.

@snuffles36 Note the number are posted on UMich.edu and you claimed there was no number released. If I have not proven your wrong, you have to prove you right. It may look contradictory if you use outdated info. When the numbers were released officially from UM and published on newspaper, it is far more reliable than someone replied on a social media site.
Enrollment deposit does not mean final enrollment. That’s why they are expecting 6200 from 6795 that have paid. Nevertheless, There were 300 less students paid deposit last year and they have 6225 enrolled last year including that 89 from wait list. Go figure your chance.

What stats did you apply with that eventually got you waitlisted?

Is there still any hope of getting off the waitlist from LSA at this point? I have a friend who claimed that she knew 4 in-state applicants who got off of the waitlist very soon after May 1st.

^^^^^^

Have you read this thread? To be blunt, no one is going to get off the waitlist.

I would not go so far as to say that no one is going to get off the waitlist for sure. But at best, you will have a scenario where 3,000 students are on the waitlist, and only 0-50 of them will be admitted. The odds are not good.

The University of Michigan Admissions Tumblr announced the waitlist is now closed for fall 2014.
