I have only a few more weeks to decide which undergraduate college to go to...and I am currently between UMichigan, Northwestern, Emory, and Barnard. Throughout high school I have been involved in journalism, but I am not sure if that is what I want to pursue as a career. I am looking for a fun college experience with a great education. I also want to be sure that for whichever career I decided to pursue, after college I wont have trouble finding a successful job.

My main worry with UMichigan is that, being a native Californian, I would be paying too much for a slightly impersonal education in large lecture classes. I am also worried it may be too crowded, and the classes I want would be to hard to achieve because of this.
Any suggestions?

Hey congratulations on those great acceptances!

Did you get into Medill? Because if you did, I would suggest you go there.

if you're leaning towards the liberal arts, i would say Northwestern is the way to go...

Michigan is a really great place to go if you're not sure what you want to do - all of their programs are truly outstanding. The whole lecture thing isn't bad at all - their average class size is 30-35 kids, math classes are capped at 25-30, and foreign languages are small too. The only classes that are crazy-huge are like Introduction to Psychology and such. But even then, you break apart into a smaller discussion section (30) with a PhD student who is finishing up and about to become a professor.
I don't know if you've visited, but Ann Arbor is majorly cool - there's always stuff to do (even at 4 am)! I visited Northwestern and it didn't seem like there were that many fun things to do.

MAN! I wish I was you! I definately say Northwestern. GREATEST CAMPUS/COLLEGE EVER! I was there for two months last summer and fell COMPLETELY in love with it. Northwestern is where to go. And the Medil teacher is awesome!

So Jessica, what's it going to be? Michigan or NU?

Journalism - Northwestern, just because I think Michigan does not have a journalism program (I remember reading a column in a Michigan Daily issue before the MSU vs. UM football game where a Michigan State columnist dissed Michigan about that and basketball).

Everything else - Michigan

Fun life - Michigan (I've been to like 5~6 different campuses, and Michigan was the only place where people walk around the streets even at 3 AM. Michigan was also the only place with a large selection of 3 AM munchies :D)

undesputed, you are one lucky person. if journalism is really what you want, then i would absolutely do northwestern. plus, it almost guarantees admission into their grad school journalism program, and if you go there, you can pretty much work wherever you want after you graduate. Michigan, from what ive heard, has an excellent English/literature department, so if youre looking for a more general curriculum, that might be good too.

Campuswise, you really cant go wrong. NU is literally 25-30 mins away from downtown Chicago-Lincoln park to be exact. Plus, Evanston is really cute with a lot to do. But Ann Arbor is like the ideal college town...i honestly cant find anything wrong with it.

Good Luck!!!
