UMich's Acting Program?

Ok, so it looks like I will be unable to fly to NYC, chicago, or ann arbor to audition for UMich’s MT program…i live in SoCal, and my parents refuse to take more than one trip for auditions (we will be flying to NC for my Elon audition, and Elon is in my top 3 schools) . As much as I do love UMich (and of course its amazing reputation), I feel like I’d have a better shot at Elon since UMich is more competitive and selective(not saying Elon isn’t selective, UMich gets has a larger pool of applicants). So, my question is, should I audition for UMich’s acting bfa? The acting auditions will be held at the LA unifieds this year, even if MT auditions will not. Is the UMich drama department as good as it’s MT department? Or should I find another MT school that attends the LA unifieds to audition for? And if I were to be accepted into UMich’s acting bfa, would I get opportunities to take a good amount of the MT classes offered there (preferably with the MT majors)?

The Acting and MT programs at UMich are very separate - the Acting students do not take MT classes - or vice versa. And the Acting and MT departmental shows are separate, too. There are the MUSKET productions, though, that I would guess Acting majors can audition for -? I hope someone will chime in here with more info - Coach C?

Actors and MT's sometimes take the same classes - certain freshman acting sections have both MT's and actors (randomly assigned). MT's can also take Voice (acting voice, that is), Dialects, and Shakespeare (acting) with actors. In addition, some required non-performance classes combine both groups: Theatre History, and Production Arts Management (PAM) and Stage Management (SM) - the students pick one of these 2 latter courses to take.

Occasionally, there are actors in MT shows - but these are rare occasions.

Also, in some rare cases, actors can petition to take Brent Wagner's freshman MT seminar or can be invited to take Junior Performance (Mr. Wagner's acting a song class) - again, very rare.

Anyone can audition for MUSKET.

Hope this helps! :)
