UMinn Scholarships?

the total cost is bout 40k which is pretty good OOS for Minnesota Twin Cities (im from CA)
also how are the merit scholarships for UMTC- i cant find much on their website?
what scholarships could i get?
family makes like 80k
4.17 W, 3.72 W, 1460 SAT, 31 ACT, 7 AP’s by end of senior year, ECs include Science Olympiad and Tutoring
can i even get into UMTC and their honors college?
and what scholarships could i get?

If you are at the level of NMSF, they do have very good merit scholarship. However, your stat is not outstanding enough.

so how much would i get?

Have you used the Net Price Calculator that is available through the school’s website?

https://npc.collegeboard.org/student/app/tcumn

Start there.

ok
but it doesnt include merit based stuff only financial info\

Go to that website and take advantage of the links there to information about merit scholarships available at the school.

PSAT score?

UMN admits by college. Which colleges are you applying to?

UMinn TC CSE had an over 31 ACT last admission round. Honors college is for the over 34/35s. There won’t be scholarship money for your stats. Chem eng does not admit direct, so weed out will be a big risk when the starting stats are already so high. You could potentially be admitted to UMinn at full pay with your numbers, but no honors college and no merit. Uminn increasing tuition every year.

i got 1390 on PSAT (750 math and 640 ELA) which is 203

So no to NMF.

so i wouldnt get any other merit aid?

Not sure. Your stats are good enough for admission, depending on which college you are planninng to apply to at UMTC. What is your intended major?

Honors program is by college as well. Here is the info. on that (scroll down to middle of page):

https://admissions.tc.umn.edu/honors/review.html

You can check on their webpage. I would assume you are not in any top 10% of your school ranking? The reality is you are a standard CSE type applicant. Your stats might get you into to CSE but your stats won't garner you merit in eng. It is a top school for chem eng. They don't need to buy stats.

major is ChemE

and i am top 10% (39/480) of my school

You should apply to CSE with a prospective major of ChemE and for your second choice CLA with a prospective major of Chemistry. Your stats are good enough for admission to 2nd choice (for sure) but hopefully first choice. Given your family’s income you may(?) qualify for federal need based aid. Not sure about university-wide merit but those are automatic consideration so you don’t need to apply. There are probably college - specific scholarships you can apply to as well. Honors is very difficult to get for CSE but not sure it’s needed as the curriculum is pretty rigorous as is. If admitted to CLA you have a chance at honors and would want to go that route because you’ll just get better sections of your courses. Good luck to you!

whats better chem in CLA or CSE
also for my backup i might even apply to CBS- is that fine?

CBS should be fine.

You can check out the admitted student profile I posted upthread to see which is “better” in terms of selectivity. CSE is the most selective college, then CBS with perhaps Carlson close on the tails, then the others. CLA is probably a bit more selective than CEHD/CFANS/CDES.

CLA grants the Bachelor of Arts which is a more general degree than CSE’s Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering. Doesn’t mean it’s “more easy” as a biology or chem or physcs or math major in CLA has the same requirements as one in CSE. The difference is that CLA allows you to take a variety of other courses of interest commensurate with the liberal arts goals of the college. CSE, on the other hand, requires a lot of techincal courses. Either might be the right course of study - it all depends on what you are looking for in your education.

Why would you consider chemistry if you want to be an engineer, you just need to craft your school applications appropriately. Uminn for chem eng is unquestionably a good choice. It just may not come with any carrots for you. The application should be free BTW, ask for a free golden gopher app waiver for common app. I don;t think it is a complex application.

how is the app free- im not poor or anything
