UMKC 6-year BS/MD Program

i got that letter too, lol…but i think it was sent out to everyone who interviewed sooo it’s no biggie

yeah, I got a handwritten postcard and an invitation for a campus tour. I don’t think they mean anything though…

My twin sister and I got handwritten letters today. I think they send it out to everyone who interviewed because they don’t make their decision until the very end of this month.

Well, April 1st (next Wednesday) is the national date to where colleges have to give you an acceptance/rejection decision. Good luck to everyone.

Happy,

Thanks for posting the match list.

Was it really necessary to put the goofy mascot in the group photo?

For a medical school class photo no less. It’s not a basketball (since we don’t have a university football team) pep rally lol.

What’s even funnier is Casey the Kangaroo’s expression:

Here he looks a lot more downtrodden and depressed in this picture: [UMKC</a> School of Medicine](<a href=“http://www.med.umkc.edu/features/match09.html]UMKC”>http://www.med.umkc.edu/features/match09.html)

compared to last year: NRMP[/url”>http://www.med.umkc.edu/news/sections/match/match.html]NRMP[/url</a>]

I think Casey needs to make a trip to Westport.

Congratulations to those who have gotten acceptance letters (I’m sure the rest of you, the acceptance/rejection letter will be coming this week).

If you don’t get into the program, and decide to attend UMKC as a regular freshman and apply again in the fall, look at the classes below that Year 1s take and you can take the classes they do: Anatomy 119/119L, Micro 121/121L, etc. The ones you wouldn’t be taking are obviously the MED classes.

For those who will be entering the combined BA/MD program in the Fall, I highly suggest taking BIO 202 in the Fall Semester of Year 1, rather than waiting to take it in the condensed summer session.

Please see posts 1721, 1722 from RadRacer regarding the exact plan for the Liberal Arts degree and the Biology BA degree for 6 year BA/MD students.

I’ve been asked what books you will need for the first semester.

I thought decisions were supposed to come today but I didnt get anything in the mail…

I just got a letter of acceptance today. I live in Kansas City so it may be faster here. Anyone else get accepted?

Congratulations to those who have been accepted and good luck to those of you who were not accepted in wherever you may end up going.

For those of you who have not heard yet, I encourage you to just be patient and not get anxious.

For those planning on attending I would say taking at least Gen chem 1 before you come to UMKC is a good idea, or else you get stuck taking 3 day/wk classes at 7:40am for the first two semesters in a crowded auditorium. And make sure your gen chem class wherever you take it has a lab section, or you will have to take the lab sections here at UMKC, I ended up taking chem 1 lab chem 2 lab and anatomy lab at the same time and that was lame- 9 hours in the lab for 3 credit hours.

I didnt get anything in the mail either, im from illinois…

I think we’ll get ours tomorrow…out of state ppl got screwed over

alright so I called and decisions were mailed out yesterday so its not gona come for our of state ppl til tomorrow

I got ACCEPTED!!! I am unbelievably excited.

Congratulations to everyone else who got in! And to the OOS people - just hang in!
Big envelope = good.

I am ACCEPTED!! Did anyone else cry for joy?

I cried out for joy when I initially got my acceptance letter to this program, as I thought I was home free by getting to skip the MCATs, then I cried in pain when I went through and found out how much the school was very much lacking in quality of education for its med students even with the big price tag. Many of my friends, esp. those from out-of-state felt the same way.

Congrats everyone!

Hey HappytoGraduate, I added up the info from the link you gave: <a href=“http://www.med.umkc.edu/med_admissions/images/fees09_10.jpg”>http://www.med.umkc.edu/med_admissions/images/fees09_10.jpg&lt;/a&gt;

My guess is the Room & Board figure they give for the first 2 years is under the assumption that you decide to live in the dorms the first 2 years of the program and an apartment for the last 4 years. You are required to stay in the dorms the first year of the program.

In-state
Tuition & Fees: $164,454
Room & Board, Books & Medical Supplies: $71,050
Medical Instruments (one time): $550
TOTAL: $236,504

Regional
Tuition & Fees: $243,018
Room & Board, Books & Medical Supplies: $71,050
Medical Instruments (one time): $550
TOTAL: $314,618

Out of State
Tuition & Fees: $321,554
Room & Board, Books & Medical Supplies: $71,050
Medical Instruments (one time): $550
TOTAL: $393,154

To those in the program now, and alumni, do you think the quality of your education at UMKC was worth the cost? This will obviously be different based on whether you’re out-of-state/regional/in-state and bc it’s a subjective opinion, but just wanted to hear from those who are currently in, have been through, left the program, and graduated from the program.

I’m also interested in hearing about your individual results to put your comments in context (are you in residency, did you get the speciality/residency you wanted, etc.).

How does the specific residency one gets into and whether or not the specialty “not speciality”/residency you wanted, etc. have ANYTHING to do with the quality of the actual available medical education at that school for the price they ask from students??

The person who got the residency they “wanted” could have been trying out for Family Medicine one of the easiest fields to get into.

One of many posts norcalguy posts to play devil’s advocate and talks about how nearly impossible it is to get into medical school even from an Ivy League college - and yet he goes to Cornell. You really do speak with a forked tongue. It’s almost as if you want people to go to subpar programs for a “guarantee” just for giggles.
