My OOS Son’s Merit offer was sent in the mail, not via email.
My S was accepted to UMN TC for engineering, weeks ago. No merit (yet?). In state. He shared his app to Duluth and Morris and was accepted at both, with merit at Morris, and invited to interview for up to full tuition at Morris. Duluth acceptance just came today. Not sure if merit will come there or not, either.
Our OOS student’s merit award came via postal mail.
Our S applied on 11/30/22. UMN website says he’ll find out about admission by 2/15 and scholarships by 3/31. Does anyone know if their merit scholarship awards generally come sooner than 3/31? And they and admissions decisions on somewhat of a rolling basis - not just all decisions coming right at the deadline? Thanks
Admissions and merit both appear to be rolling, but can take varying amounts of time. If it takes a while to hear back from them, I wouldn’t read anything into that… it could depend on the department or other factors that have nothing to do with your S.
My OOS S23 received merit aid notification via postal (snail) mail only. Nothing in portal or email.
DS received snail mail notice of scholarship about a week after acceptance. Keep in mind, this was early October. Sure they are swamped now.
DS received additional merit last week from CFANS.
Congrats! “Additional”?! Impressive… do you mind elaborating that a little bit? University level or college level, etc?
My son applied on 9/14. OOS - NY (Long Island). It seems like almost all of you have heard back and are concerned more with merit and scholarships at this point. Is anyone else still waiting? My son is not a high stats kid, but he does fit within the mid-50% range for ACT and his weighted GPA is about their average accepted GPA. Thanks in advance!
Hi, applied 10/31 with high stats and still waiting. I’m wondering if anyone has heard any acceptance news either way since Thanksgiving? Seems like it’s been pretty quiet since the Monday before.
Applied 10/30 and have not heard anything. What school did you apply to at UMN?
I wonder the same. Good luck to you!
He received a university level National Scholar Award of 15K in October and just heard about an additional college level award of 4K from CFANS.
CBS (Neuroscience) OOS, but very high stats and good EC’s, etc. Other people from my school heard back right away (though for other majors.) I’m starting to get a little worried/stressed as to why I haven’t heard anything after over a month.
My son applied October 27 – out of state – and was accepted on November 7, which was surprisingly fast (School of Engineering). We visited and expressed a lot of interest in the school (attended the Golden Gopher event in our area) - not sure if that mattered.
I am confused here, how come people who applied for Early Action II have received decision already while many for EA 1 are still waiting.
Same here. We’re OOS (NY) and only 4 kids applied from our school. It just isn’t a popular university for kids from Long Island. Technically UMN-TC can choose to give decisions in any order they want. They don’t owe us an answer until 1/31. I think it seems like only the highest stat kids get answers early and the rest sit on a shelf until they’re ready revisit them. Luckily, my son is very happy with some of the schools he’s already heard back from. Good luck to your family!
Another thing I found strange was when you search for which admissions officer is assigned to New York, there isn’t one. Haha! So, that’s interesting in and of itself. No wonder not a single kid has enrolled from our school in the past 5 years…
I don’t think it’s jus high stats though, must also depend on school/major, or area of the country you are applying from? I have high stats (4.0 unweighted, 1560 SAT, lots of AP’s and good EC’s with leadership) and applied 10/31 but still haven’t heard back. This is the only rolling admission school I applied to so it’s a very different experience. I’ve been confused as to why I haven’t heard back yet while others hear back so quickly. I’m hoping it’s nothing wrong with my application but just that it’s taking longer for my school/major or there are lots of apps from my area. I was definitely hoping I would have heard back by now.
