Which students are having a better time this Fall? I think it’s these kids. And going to the pro games in town–no better. Guess there is always a play.

Well, we had the WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx this year. Lit up the town. Seriously. And Gopher hockey is off to an impressive start. Minnesota Wild might be pretty good, too, with a new first line of prolific goal-scorers Dany Heatley and Devin Setoguchi (both acquired from the San Jose Sharks) playing on the same line with Wild captain and Finnish national hero Mikko Koivu—or as they say around here, “Two Sharks, one Finn.”

And yes, there are plenty of plays, thank you. Seamus Heaney’s new adaptation of Sophocles’ “Antigone,” titled “The Burial at Thebes.” A major new production of “Much Ado About Nothing” at the Guthrie. August Wilson’s “Two Trains Running” at Penumbra, one of only three professional African-American theater companies in the country offering a full season of live theater, directed by Lou Bellamy who has been hailed by national critics as the definitive interpreter of Wilson’s work (most of which was written for Penumbra while Wilson lived in Saint Paul). A musical tribute to Minnesota native Judy Garland at the History Theater. A new musical adaptation of Dickens’ “Oliver Twist” as told by street buskers, at the Park Square. Highbrow stuff that you probably don’t get much hanging around Madison’s many taverns. But we like it.

Actually I was amazed that Gopher Hockey ever fell to the level they did as it has always been at least good. Badger-Gopher hockey games were always a great battle. With the new B10 hockey league commencing soon it is important that all the teams are good. They should have gotten ND into the league for hockey only. Then it be more like the good old days with quality schools and teams. I never cared for the WCHA in that regard. Much to wide a range in the schools. I like peers competing with peers.

Based on what?? UW place far better nationally with higher pay. Over 15% were placed in the East last cycle compared with only 6% for UM. Average base pay for finance jobs was over $58,000 compared with under $49,000 at UM.
