UMNTC Business School for MIS?

How is the program? Does anyone have any insights? Do people generally get jobs right away after graduation?

I personally don’t know how the MIS program compares nationally, but it is safe to assume that if it is in Carlson it is a solid program. I have a friend involved heavily in the MIS Club and everything they do sounds cool. For example, a bunch of free swag from Microsoft and new release xbox games. Things like that.

Carlson overall has a very good job placement rate. Spring '09 grads (not during low point of the recession) something around 88% were placed within 3 months of graduation. The job placement rate was close to 95% in the years previous.

Ya there in top 10 for undergrad MIS according to USNews
http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges/spec-mis

Is it hard to get into this program (the business school in general), specifically for out of state?

Are the dorms there new, decent, or old?

What about ethnicity? Is there a lot of diversity here? According to cappex, there’s no information on it. Are Asians the minority?

You get into the MIS program when you declare your major as such in Carlson. Carlson is Freshman admitting. The average incoming Freshman in CSOM has a 29 on their ACT and right around the 90th percentile in their graduating class (check the University of Minnesota’s admission website for specifics).

The dorms at the U are all fairly nice. 2 Res. Halls have had new additions within the last 15 years. All are in good shape. There’s a mix of old and new. Take a campus tour for visuals.

I don’t recall the detailed ethnicity percentages. But, most students are Caucasian. Most of the minority students are Asian (mostly international students I believe). Also check the University’s website for specifics.

A carlson sophomore here.

The MIS program is top notch, definitely the high light of carlson.
no specific admission into that program, you can just declare that as a major and if you don’t like it switch.

Dorms are different depending on where you live. Middlebrook is nice, almost private bathrooms, good food and on the west bank where B school is.

the rest are a mix of old and new. Sanford is being renovated right now.

Not all that hard to get into carlson. i’m from out of state, had like 3.6 GPA, and a 31 act. Minnesota was not very high on my list, but i’m glad i came here.

a lot of asians here, a good mix of korean, japanese and chinese…myself included. but like a previous poster said, a lot of international students overall.

hope that helps

How generious are they with their FA? What about scholarships?

I’m asian too and I want to apply for fall 2011 for MIS as well. Im currently in a Community College in California, but im a intl student over there.

I know this school is very famous for its MIS program, so i think it might be a lil bit challenging to get into this program more than the other majors.

It doesnt require recommendation letter and essays, so i think its based on your grades and maybe EC activities.

I have my current GPA of 3.65 and I dont know if it is good enough to be admitted in this program in here. Ill be applying a round a month from now, I hopefully get accepted.

I have another issue to, im in Sillicon valley, California which is the tech city in the USA, so this is a great place to get a job for MIS students. I will apply to SJSU as well. What is more important the networking that sjsu has with sillicon valley or the reknown MIS program in Uni of Minnesota - Twin cities?
